Brief Job Description
The GA position includes tuition scholarship up to 9 credit hours per semester at in-state tuition rate for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The English Education graduate assistant will assist the program coordinator in administering the English Education program. The graduate assistant will assist with relevant data collection and analysis for accreditation reports, assist with development of teacher and school partnerships, develop and maintain related English Education web pages, assist in developing and implementing retention and recruitment plans, and assist with developing and implementing regular program events including guest speakers and conferences. Additionally, the graduate assistant will provide support for ongoing development of the Center for English Teaching. The graduate assistant will also participate in recruitment visits to local schools, serve as a representative for on-campus recruitment activities; assist with orientation, open house, and other information programs. The graduate assistant will fulfill other duties as assigned by the English Education program coordinator.
Required Qualifications
Current or entering full-time matriculated graduate student in a graduate program at SUNY Buffalo State (minimum 6 credit hours); excellent oral/written communication skills (as demonstrated in interview); experience in assessment and evaluation; computer proficiency (database management/word processing/Excel, multimedia and Web 2.0, digital video editing, web design); ability to analyze and present numerical and narrative data. Graduate assistants must have an ability to work well in a collaborative professional higher education office environment. Candidate must be enrolled in at least 6 graduate credit hours (graduate assistants are considered to be full-time students when enrolled for 6 graduate credit hours but students can take 9 credit hours if they choose) in a master’s degree program at Buffalo State.
Preferred Qualifications
Report writing; background in education; teaching or tutoring in writing or language arts related fields; interest in humanities; familiarity with English Education and local secondary schools.
