    Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany is seeking applicants for a new Administrative and Business Manager. The successful candidate manages a diverse portfolio of applications and solutions supporting the work of numerous university business offices. The candidate should be passionate about technological innovation and be versed in business assessment and analysis. The Manager is focused on customer relationship management, work alignment, project prioritization, and coordination of resources for projects and service delivery.

     

    The successful candidate is highly motivated, comfortable interacting with everyone from senior leadership to front-line staff across the University and works equally well independently or as part of a team. They have a unique blend of sophisticated interpersonal and technical skills. The Manager is adept at understanding business needs, the technical infrastructure they rely on and can advocate for both campus partners and ITS. The Manager also contributes to ITS alignment with the University's strategic goals.

     

    One of the Manager's greatest strengths is their ability to work collaboratively with campus partners, ITS colleagues, and vendors. As the primary liaison between business offices and ITS, it is incumbent on the Manager to develop an in-depth understanding of customers' administrative and business needs and understand how technology can be used as a strategy for improvement. It is equally important the Manager works closely with the ITS colleagues who set the standards for enterprise architecture, application delivery and support, and information security. Key to the Manager's success is their ability to coordinate service team and project team members reporting to other areas of ITS.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    + Build and maintain strong relationships with senior level management, campus partners, and vendors.

    + Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the business needs for all assigned areas, facilitating the assessment and definition of technical solutions to business challenges.

    + Collaborate with peers across ITS to support daily operations and new technical work for the campus.

    + Participate in appropriate campus committees, working groups, and calendared meetings.

    + Manage projects identified for assigned services.

    + Ensure delivery of new IT solutions or business applications through requirements gathering, clarifying business processes, evaluating offerings, and supporting institutional mandates.

    + Drive campus direction on technology needs and regularly evaluate existing solutions and applications to ensure they meet the ever-changing demands of the University.

    + Identify measures of success and articulate the value of ITS work for project management and service delivery.

    + Collect and analyze workload data to effectively estimate future workloads and build service roadmaps.

    + Lead service teams for assigned services to ensure smooth service delivery, identify and recommend efficiencies, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

    + Collaborate with other ITS managers to adequately staff projects with shared human resources.

    + Provide input to ITS strategic priorities to align with university-wide and organizational needs.

    + Maintain and track data in support of goal reporting as needed.

    + Identify trends in campus business function, influencing technology needs that impact ITS staffing time and resources.

    + Lead and manage direct reports by providing guidance, support, and performance feedback to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices foster a positive and productive work environment. Complete performance management activities in a timely manner, offering constructive feedback and developing improvement plans.

    + Develop and administer budget for operational needs and project funding; implement and allocate resources.

    + Other reasonable duties as assigned

    + Reports to: Director of Academic, Administrative, and Research Services

    + Supervises the following positions: Senior Applications Developer

    + May supervise other employees as assigned

    Job Requirements:

    Job Requirements:

    + Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

    + Frequent in-person interaction - both scheduled and unscheduled.

    + Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple and changing priorities.

    + Establish and maintain effective customer relationships with the campus community and third-party vendors, facilitating opportunities across groups for sharing information and evaluating products and services.

    + Optimize the use of business applications in support of business processes in collaboration with others across ITS.

    + Work closely with ITS partners, particularly the Manager of Application Operations and Development, to understand and support underlying infrastructure strategies, goals, standards, and best practices.

    + Develop and administer approved budgets; implement and allocate resources.

    + Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.

    + Be available to report to campus in-person. This position is not eligible for telecommuting.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

    + At least 7 years' experience building relationships with stakeholders, colleagues, and vendors.

    + At least 7 years' experience working with enterprise solutions in a large, complex organization.

    + Supervisory experience

    + Experience in project management, business analysis or analytical analysis of technology use in a business environment.

    + Experience managing and allocating resources for project and operational work.

    + Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

    + Experience with NYS procurement

    + Experience working in higher education

    + Experience with application lifecycle management, including deployment, maintenance, and upgrades

    + Experience with enterprise database management, cloud computing, or cybersecurity principles

    + ITIL, PMP, CBAP or CFLBA certification

    + You must be in a State-funded UUP professional position (MC employees are not eligible).

    + You must have a permanent, term, or probationary appointment. Only temporary employees employed by UAlbany for three or more consecutive years can be considered eligible.
