This posting is to fill multiple positions and the position(s) may be filled as a:

+ Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees)
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
This position is located within the Enforcement Division of the Office of the Secretary, in Baton Rouge, LA.
A criminal background check will be required of all selected applicants.
All eligible employees may be receiveadditional compensation per hour in addition to their normal hourly rate under the following circumstances for each hour worked:
+ Between 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday;
+ Between 4:30 p.m. Friday and 8:00 a.m. Monday; or
+ All schedules on all statutory and declared state holidays.
Payment of shift differential is only for actual hours worked, and does not apply when an employee is scheduled to work, but may be on leave or other absence.
Shift differential may apply to any eligible hour worked, in addition to, any other approved special pay and/or overtime provision or other applicable rule, provided funding is available.
The Communications Officer position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is advertised to be filled as a Communications Officer 1, 2 or 3. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life.
LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology.
The Communications Officer 1-3 provides technical advice on personal computer-based operations and the operations of the trunked radio system. Completes all necessary forms to maintain proper up-to-date verification of radio assignments. Effectively monitors, diagnoses, and repairs problems that cause radio system, telephone system or computer system failure. Monitors hazardous weather and/or other situations and notifies area agents.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six months of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or in administrative services; OR
Six months of training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute; OR
Fifteen semester hours of college training.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirement within six months of employment.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
Job Specification
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To receive and respond to requests from enforcement officers/agents through telecommunication equipment. Acts as the point of contact with the general public for emergency situations, accidents, complaints, etc.

Direct from a Communications Officer Supervisor or higher-level personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Statewide.

Differs from Communications Officer 2 by the absence of experienced-level duties.

Receive and respond to informational requests by officers/agents.
Receive, analyze, prioritize, and respond to general public complaints and inquiries. Alert the nearest officer/agent, dispatch to location, and relay the information.
Search, enter, modify, and delete computerized records for vehicle registrations, driver licenses, other licenses, wanted felons, missing persons, unidentified persons or bodies, stolen property, etc. in the appropriate computer database.
Maintain proper record keeping and update desk log during communications.
