Timberlyn Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation (https://www.bearmountainhc.com/locations/timberlyn-heights-nursing-rehabilitation/) / Neurobehavioral Program is located at 320 Maple Avenue in Great Barrington, Mass.
Timberlyn Heights provides neuro-rehabilitative services to individuals with acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury, and/or a number of other neurological/organic conditions. The specialized services available in Timberlyn’s Neurobehavioral Rehabilitation program include neurological, neuro-rehabilitative, and neuro-psychiatric services, as well as intensive behavioral management and treatment services necessary to promote recovery, improved quality of life, and, if possible, transfer to a less restrictive, community-based setting.
Job Summary: An Occupational Therapist (OT) assists individuals in developing, recovering, or maintaining skills needed for daily living and working. OTs assess patients' physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs, and create personalized treatment plans to help them achieve greater independence and quality of life. They work with individuals of all ages, from children to the elderly, in various settings such as hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Assessment & Evaluation:
+ Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities.
+ Review medical histories and assess the patient’s daily activities and environment.
+ Develop a treatment plan based on evaluation results and patient goals.
+ Treatment Planning & Implementation:
+ Design and implement individualized treatment plans to improve daily living skills and mobility.
+ Provide therapeutic exercises, techniques, and strategies to help patients recover or manage their conditions.
+ Utilize adaptive equipment or techniques to promote patient independence.
+ Patient Education:
+ Educate patients and families about treatment plans, goals, and progress.
+ Instruct patients on exercises or activities that can be done at home to support rehabilitation.
+ Collaboration:
+ Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists, doctors, and speech therapists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
+ Communicate with healthcare team members to monitor patient progress and make adjustments to treatment plans as needed.
+ Documentation & Reporting:
+ Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and outcomes.
+ Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational standards for patient documentation.
+ Therapeutic Support:
+ Assist patients in performing daily activities such as dressing, bathing, cooking, and using transportation.
+ Recommend and train patients to use assistive devices, like wheelchairs or handrails.
+ Professional Development:
+ Stay current with new treatments, technologies, and best practices in the field of occupational therapy.
+ Attend workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
+ Valid state licensure or certification as an Occupational Therapist.
+ Strong knowledge of rehabilitation techniques and therapeutic interventions.
+ Ability to assess and develop tailored treatment plans for patients with diverse needs.
+ Strong communication skills to collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
+ Empathy, patience, and understanding to work with individuals of varying backgrounds and conditions.
Preferred Skills:
+ Experience working in specific settings (e.g., pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, or rehabilitation).
+ Proficiency in using adaptive equipment and assistive technologies.
+ Experience with case management and multidisciplinary care coordination.
Work Environment:
+ Physical demands may include lifting or assisting patients and setting up therapeutic activities.
