    Job Description Summary

    Under the general direction of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (reporting to the AVP for Development and Engagement), the Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement oversees programming, activities, and initiatives to engage a global constituency of over 36,000 living alumni and over 3,000 current parents and families, along with students, faculty, staff, and friends of Nazareth in a lifetime of meaningful involvement and connection.

     

    In support of this mission, the Director is responsible for setting and implementing the strategic direction of the Alumni Engagement office and the broad operational oversight of the program, setting and meeting all goals, and enlisting colleagues throughout the Nazareth community to identify and champion opportunities for collaboration in order to promote stronger institutional affinity. Provide leadership and direction in the implementation of programs, services, initiatives, activities, and events that engage alumni, parents and families, students, faculty, staff, and community members. Develop and manage a comprehensive volunteer management structure to leverage and support programs. Partner with the Advancement team to identify and steward volunteers and donors.

     

    The Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement oversees Alumni Engagement operations including setting and monitoring budgets, implementing systems, procedures, and practices, and is responsible for management, hiring, and training of alumni engagement staff and students.

    Essential Functions

    Strategy for alumni:

    + Provide strategic direction and leadership for programs designed to reach and maximize the engagement of over 36,000 living alumni.

    + Craft long-term strategic goals and priorities to address the evolving needs and interests of Nazareth’s alumni that are consistent with the goals and priorities of Nazareth and the division of Advancement.

    Strategy for parents and families:

    + Provide strategic direction and leadership for programs designed to reach and maximize the engagement of over 3000 parents and families of current students.

    + Build a communication structure, engagement activities, and volunteer opportunities.

    + Serve as point person for parents and families and as convener for campus partners.

    Volunteer and affinity engagement:

    + Provide strategic direction and leadership for volunteer management and affinity engagement.

    + Develop, oversee, plan, and execute events, communications, and initiatives that will ensure their voice and involvement in the continuous improvement of the institution.

    Campus-wide milestone celebrations:

    + Design and develop event strategy from conception to planning to execution to analysis and follow up for campus-wide milestone celebrations in alignment with institutional and departmental strategic vision.

    + Engage campus partners and volunteers in event planning and activities. (For example: presidential transition, Naz Weekend)

    Collaboration with campus partners:

    + Maintain close effective working relationships with campus partners to effectively leverage and harness the combined strengths and reach of these programs in service of the institutional strategy and goals.

    + Support the goals and work of those offices as appropriate and in collaboration with goals of alumni engagement office. (Offices engaged: advancement colleagues, cabinet and deans, faculty, marketing and communications, athletics, Center for Life’s Work, Culture, Community, and Belonging, enrollment)

    Data and analysis:

    + Provide the framework for and the oversight to goal setting and benchmarking.

    + Identify and develop the points of evaluation, metrics, and analysis necessary for the assessment and management of Nazareth Alumni Engagement programs.

    + Develop appropriate formats for reports on alumni engagement performance for a broad array of internal and external constituencies for use in management decision-making.

    + Evaluate, strengthen, and enhance existing programming, and develop and implement new programs designed to foster lifelong engagement. (For example: set baseline for engagement metrics according to CASE , alumni census, focus groups)

    Marketing and communications:

    + Oversee marketing and communications plan for multiple constituencies related to strategic programs and initiatives. (For example, Connections hub, @nazalumni Instagram, event invitations, News @Naz alumni newsletter, Flyer Family News parent and family newsletter, personal communications)

    Leadership and supervision:

    + Serve as the chief alumni officer as part of the advancement leadership team and report to the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees as requested.

    + Serve as the leader of the Alumni Engagement team, providing supervision, management, advice, support, and guidance of the day-to-day operations.

    + Recruit, hire, onboard, and train staff.

    Volunteer Management:

    + Develop and manage volunteer engagement programs that identify, engage, cultivate, and celebrate strong volunteer relationships with Nazareth and create a pipeline for membership on the Board of Trustees and Alumni Advisory Board.

    + Manage the Alumni Advisory Board.

    + Assist other units with their volunteer opportunities and catalog those groups and volunteers. (For example: Parents Leadership Council, affinity groups, deans advisory groups)

    Visit goals:

    + Complete 100 alumni contacts and 10 visits per year.

    Operations:

    + Oversee budgets, policies and procedures, and data management.

    + Monitor, evaluate, and manage the appropriate activities for various populations including volunteer recruitment, committee assignments, events, and communications.

    + Provide strategic oversight of the relationship with current vendors related to alumni engagement.

    + Monitor expenses and program results to ensure the ideal return on investment.

    + Identify and order appropriate swag to cultivate and steward constituents.

    Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

    + Bachelor’s degree.

    + Seven years of relevant experience in alumni relations programs recognized for their effectiveness, or similar experience that emphasizes relationship building, stewardship, and overseeing event-driven programming and communications.

    Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

    + Master’s degree and/or Nazareth degree.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    + Two direct reports within the department.

    Physical Requirements

    + Prolonged periods of sitting, moderate computer use, and occasional lifting or moving of light objects.

    Equipment to be used

    + Proficiency with typical office equipment is necessary for this role, including computers, printers, scanners, telephones, and photocopiers.
