The mission (https://www.nytco.com/company/mission-and-values/) of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

The New York Times Video department is looking for a Senior Producer to work on our Reporter Video team, a multi-disciplinary team of video journalists creating groundbreaking, short-form digital journalism. The team identifies compelling stories and brings the depth and breadth of our news report onto our site and other platforms through video that features the expertise of our world-class journalists. You should be an experienced manager and team leader who works autonomously to identify critical stories outside the U.S. A track record of making sound editorial decisions on world news is essential. This job requires the ability to structure powerful video both on and off platform.

You’ll serve as a go-to resource for colleagues, providing editorial guidance and constructive feedback, and must be comfortable enforcing deadlines and working in a fast-paced newsroom. An effective communicator, you will work closely with colleagues on the International desk—in New York as well as in London and Seoul.

This is a hybrid position based in New York and includes regular attendance in the office each week.

    Responsibilities will include:

+ Drive innovative Reporter Video delivering on a range of formats

+ Build and strengthen relations with colleagues on the International desk

+ Lead story development and story edits

+ Review, assign and provide feedback on productions

+ Support and guide script writing and visual approaches for effective short form video

+ Oversee production across multiple projects

+ Guide interviews and shoots as needed, both in studio and field

+ Foster experiments with new video approaches and editorial strategies

+ Manage video journalists and editors in the newsroom and field

+ Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence (https://www.nytco.com/company/mission-and-values/) and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

+ This role reports to a senior executive producer, Reporter Video

    Basic Requirements:

+ 8+ years producing digital news videos

+ 4+ years experience managing video journalists

+ Broad and in depth experience in digital or broadcast news

+ Proven track record managing direct reports

+ Demonstrated deep command of a variety of video sources, including wire services, UGC, archival footage, motion graphics, and original footage

+ Understanding of mainstream and emerging social channels

+ Understanding of Times standards of journalistic excellence and truthfulness

    Preferred Requirements:

+ Excellent writing, editing and communication skills

+ Experience overseeing geolocation and UGC verification work.

+ Experience developing and editing visual material for social platforms

+ Expert knowledge of current events with advanced level experience covering breaking news stories in the US and internationally

+ Familiar with digital storytelling formats

+ Flexibility to work extended hours

    $145,000 — $170,000 USD
