    Job Summary:

    Responsible for processing release of information (ROI) requests, including: receiving, prioritizing, entering the requests into the electronic health records module, retrieving patients’ medical records in the electronic health record, copying/scanning/e-delivery of medical records, and processing invoices and collecting payments.

    Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Processes requests for release of information (e.g.: records released to employers, insurance companies, and attorney offices, the appeal/denial of benefits, and internal legal/risk management purposes) in compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and established protocols while maintaining high patient satisfaction.

    + Performs quality assurance (QA) checks to validate Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance during intake, processing, and completion requests for information.

    + Prioritizes and prepares all request for information related documents and enters the requests and authorizations into electronic health record release of information modules.

    + Retrieves records in response to requests for information while reviewing records for appropriate dates of service, verification of identity, and specific content requested.

    + Demonstrates helpful and effective telephone etiquette and customer service skills by providing appropriate information to callers. Deals calmly with customers in stressful and escalating situations.

    + Communicates with outside customers (i.e.: attorneys, law enforcement, auditors, and insurance company representatives) regarding record delivery, expediting requests, and managing complaints or concerns.

    + Interacts with internal staff when requests are made for information which is not available in the electronic health record and requests for psychiatry records.

    + Assists patients with completing authorizations to release personal health information (PHI) and guides them through the request for information process.

    + Prepares invoices, receives payment information and collects payments for services provided by following established departmental and company protocols.

    + Sends requested medical records to requestors in a variety of formats.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION

    + High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience

    EXPERIENCE

    + Two years' experience

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

    + Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

    + Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.

    + Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

    + Frequent keyboard use/data entry.

    + Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.

    + Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

    + Rare climbing.
