The Transit Police Department is one of the fastest growing law enforcement agencies in the state due the expansion of light rail and Rapid Transit Bus systems. There is an authorized strength of 171 full-time officers, 80 part-time officers, 55 community service officers and 40 administrative staff dedicated to one thing: public safety on and near our transit system.
How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
The Police Video Evidence Administratoris under the direction of the Business Technology Unit within Police Administration. This position utilizes several video management systems within the Metropolitan Council to obtain video for police evidence. Staff also provide oversight of MTPD’s body worn cameras, including hardware deployment and maintenance, and Officer and CSO training. The Police Video Evidence Administrator is responsible for nondiscoverable attorney’s requests and data requests, to include redaction in compliance with all state and departmental policies and procedures, as well as testifying in court when subpoenaed.
What you would do in this job
+ Download requested video into MTPD digital management system from buses, trains, platforms and Metropolitan Council property.
+ Assist Investigations and Patrol with video review to locate incidents.
+ Write supplemental reports within the Records Management System detailing available video evidence.
+ Maintain supply and distribute body worn cameras to Officers and CSO’s, and troubleshoot issues with body worn camera and squad video.
+ Prepare training material for Officer and CSO academies.
+ Utilize MTPD records management system and court access program to ascertain case status to determine the releasability of the video.
+ Understand the origination of videos to determine which statutes, policies and procedures dictate data practices requirements.
+ Maintain spreadsheet of all data requests.
+ Testify and appear in court as an expert witness to lay the foundation for video authenticity.
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)
Any of the following combinations of experience in a law enforcement related position, and completed education in video technology, information technology, business administration, law enforcement, or related:
+ High school diploma/GED with four (4) years of experience.
+ Associates degree with two (2) years of experience.
+ Bachelor’s degree, or higher .
*Valid driver's license with acceptable record is required.
What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):
+ Three (3), or more, years of experience in law enforcement.
+ Knowledge and experience with Axon products and software
+ Knowledge and experience redacting videos in compliance with state statutes, and policies and procedures
+ Experience and ability to multitask including demonstrated ability to utilize multiple applications and files all at once
+ Experience responding to data requests
+ Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
+ Customer service including in person, email and telephone
+ Experience working with diverse populations of internal and external customers
What knowledge, skills, and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:
+ Knowledge of video management systems and editing software
+ Knowledge of data practices related state statutes
+ Ability to problem solve video related issues working with information services and video administrators to troubleshoot issues.
+ Ability to verbally communicate the use of technology for court appearances
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
+ Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
+ Ability to interact with law enforcement, coworkers and the public by communicating verbally and in writing
+ Ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council , you must pass a drug test (safety sensitive positions only), and a thorough background check conducted by the MTPD which verifies education, employment, and criminal history. All applicants' background checks and fingerprints must be cleared by the Criminal Bureau of Apprehension in order to be a user of their CJIS system. Failure to be cleared by BCA will automatically nullify any job offer extended. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction, you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
