As we scale our Research team, we are hiring a senior ML engineer to take ownership of our Python-heavy research codebase and construct an engineering pipeline that makes machine learning research projects ready for production. You will work with a team of industry pioneers conducting applied research in embedded machine learning and digital signal processing, at the heart of a company that is built around edge AI research.

Our team literally wrote the book on AI at the Edge (from O’Reilly)—along with creating award-winning technologies like our FOMO constrained object detection architecture, FOMO-AD visual anomaly detection, and EON Compiler model optimization system. Our platform is cited in thousands of research papers, and we are a Gartner Cool Vendor in Edge Computing.

Your role will involve leadership, mentoring, and process design in addition to engineering, software architecture, and programming. There will be room to grow and potentially manage others as we expand the team from 6 to 10+ researchers and engineers. Your role is to be the professional software engineer in a room full of researchers. You view writing great software as a craft, and you enjoy designing systems to facilitate quality code.

Like the rest of our team, you are naturally proactive and autonomous, and will go the extra mile when required: not by working late, but by going outside of your lane to help deliver the best possible product for our developers. We prize trust, collaboration, entrepreneurialism, and creativity.

Primary Responsibilities:

• As a senior ML engineer you will be a leader and mentor within our team, defining engineering standards and helping research engineers build high quality and maintainable systems.

• You will own our ML and DSP production codebase, using your skills and experience as a senior ML engineer to ensure that our production code is robust, maintainable, and tested.

• You’ll coordinate with the company’s full-stack and embedded engineering teams to help integrate new features and support existing ones.

• This is a hands-on engineering role that involves high level software architecture, development, and supporting production code through bug triage and fixes.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Senior software engineer

• Experience working as a machine learning engineer supporting production ML code

• Expert-level knowledge of Python and dependency management, along with deep learning and scientific computing libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Numpy, Scikit-Learn

• Experience designing software libraries and tools

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Experience on a remote-first team

Academic Credentials:

• No academic requirements: your professional experience speaks for itself

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field and 1+ year of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

Pay range** **and Other Compensation & Benefits** **:

$126,700.00 - $211,200.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
