    The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Aging and Disability Services, Bureau of Preventative & Protective Services is seeking a Social Work Supervisor to join our team!

    Overview:

    HHS, Aging and Disability Division, is seeking an Adult Protective Services Supervisor (APSS) to direct, plan and supervise a team of adult protective workers conducting assessments in a service region of 30 counties. The supervisor will ensure professional accountability and program integrity are maintained by the worker/s. This position requires knowledge of the principles of supervision, including delegation of work, training of subordinates, performance evaluation, discipline, and hiring and the ability to make logical and accurate decisions based on interpretations of program rules and regulations and administrative support data

    Summary:

    This is a full-time opportunity, Monday – Friday with typical hours being from 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM. This position will supervise a team of adult protective workers in the Western Region (30 counties) and may work from the nearest HHS full-time office or from their home and will travel on a regular basis.

     

    Adult Protective Workers are responsible for assessing safety and risk as well as service needs for dependent adults. Some supervision responsibilities include providing consultation to SW3’s, facilitating community collaboration, handling after hours crises, and monitoring compliance. The position must ensure complaints about employees, or the unit are handled promptly; performs public relations and speaks to community groups as needed; maintains required records; gathers and analyzes data as requested.

     

    Mileage is paid at $0.50/mile travelled according to the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) State Accounting Enterprise Procedures. Compensation is commensurate with experience and education.

    Core Essential Functions:

    + Provides regional support to program staff using independent judgment to assign, respond and communicate program goals and objectives.

    + Carries out customer service activities requiring regular and timely work attendance. Field operations processes contain critical time frames and excessive absenteeism negatively impacts the meeting of those time frames subsequently impacting customers and internal/external stakeholders.

    + Understands quality is defined by the customer, therefore services are designed by working closely with customers and measuring performance in meeting their needs and expectations.

    + Interacts with employees, internal/external stakeholders, and customers in a positive manner to resolve problems and answer inquiries. Contacts may include correspondence, telephone, virtual, or face to face encounters.

    + Effectively communicate orally by expressing ideas and facts to individuals or groups; makes clear and convincing presentations (free of grammatical and factual errors) both orally and in writing; listens to others; facilitates an open exchange of ideas; build, foster, and maintain partnerships at a variety of levels. Actively listens to facilitate the exchange of information to provide positive and professional customer service to internal/external stakeholders.

    + Interacts individually or as part of a team environment to manage processes, facilitate and encourage cooperation, instill pride, form trust, develop group/unit identity, facilitates commitment and team spirit. Works with others to achieve goals.

    + Identifies a need for and knows where or how to gather information by prioritizing, organizing and maintaining information to meet expectations and completion of deadlines.

    + Obtains information from a variety of sources, including reading written materials, documenting telephone

    + conversations, searching computer databases to interpret information and accurately communicate the information to others.

    + Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain reasonable facts, data, or other information that analyzes information and correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.

    + Operate office equipment and maintain files including those in the following formats: Word, Excel, PDF, and other formats. Is familiar with SharePoint and Microsoft Teams applications. Type and perform data input and retrieval on a computer.

    + Maintains and troubleshoots computer equipment issues with the assistance of IT.

    + Comprehend, interpret, and apply work rules, policy, regulations and procedures as well as concepts and principals of the specific work duties in order to meet performance standards.

    + Troubleshoots problematic situations to find innovative solutions to offer to program administration. Identifies and applies innovative solutions to programs; designs new methods where established methods and procedures are inapplicable or are unavailable.

    + Works in a team environment to achieve program and agency goals/objectives.

    + Confronts crisis and high stress situations (for example - tight deadlines, hostile individuals, emergency situations, dangerous situations) in a calm, effective, and orderly manner maintaining confidential information as required by the agency and assuring safety for all individuals as top priority.

    + Perform mathematical calculations accurately in the process of completing assigned duties.

    + Apply essential elements of management and administration. The ability to recognize and define a problem, gather facts using problem-solving tools, develop possible solutions, analyze each potential solution, compare the outcome of each solution and select the best solution to solve the problem.

    + Ensure staff adhere to work rules, policy, regulations, and procedures as well as concepts and principals of the specific work duties in order to meet performance standards.

    + Design services by working closely with customers and measuring performance in meeting their needs and expectations.

    + The ideal candidate will have:

    + Knowledge of the purposes, goals, and objectives of social work programs.

    + Knowledge of the basic principles of community organization.

    + Ability to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates.

    + Displays a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail and commitment by completing assignments

    + efficiently with minimal supervision.

    + Follows policy and cooperates with peers.

    + Exchanges information with individuals or groups effectively by listening and responding appropriately.

    + Excellent judgment and communication skills.

    + The ability to use critical thinking skills, prioritize work and work under pressure.

    + The ability to use independent judgement to make sound decisions, demonstrate integrity and confidentiality and a strong work ethic.

    Graduation from an accredited four year college and experience equal to four years of full-time work in a social work capacity in a public or private agency;

    OR

    professional experience in a social work capacity may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of qualifying experience for each thirty semester hours of education;

    a Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited four year college or university and experience equal to three years of full-time experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency;

    OR

    a Master's degree in social work from an accredited college or university and experience equal to one year of full-time work in a social work capacity in a public or private agency;

    OR
