Principal Site Reliability Engineer (Multiple Openings)

What You'll Do at Pega:

+ Design and develop observability solutions for Pega Cloud hosted applications.

+ Responsible for Micro services monitoring used in PegaCloud services.

+ Enable observability monitoring capabilities - metric collections, logging and APM(tracing) with applications hosted in PegaCloud service.

+ Be familiar with Open telemetry standards for distributed tracing, open metric collection.

+ Define KPIs, SLI, SLO and SLA’s for micro services.

+ Manage and maintain monitoring Pega tools and technologies.

+ Responsible for correlation of Pega Infrastructure and Application metrics, error codes and logs; end-to-end monitoring from Customer request, load balancer, backend services (tomcat, java application, database, ping, network, etc.); and synthetic monitoring (simulation of customer request end-to-end).

+ Work with Engineering (Pega product/ Cloud engineering) towards achieving the common goal of availability monitoring, performance monitoring, application monitoring and enabling correlation between infrastructure and application/services/technologies.

+ Work on automation and proactively build Pega solutions with team to enhance the current process.

+ Provide feedback on bugs and customer experience enhancements.

+ Operate, administer and automate solutions on Pega Cloud Stack.

+ Responsible for problem discovery, analysis, and resolution.

+ Use world class Pega cloud infrastructure and management technologies.

Who You Are:

+ Requires Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related field of study, and

+ 7 years of experience in any job title/occupation/position involving operational or engineering experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and tuning Java applications and Apache Tomcat application servers in Cloud based environments utilizing Cloud Observability.

+ Experience specified must include 5 years of experience with each of the following:

+ Developing distributed applications in a public cloud environment;

+ Linux administration including shell scripts and crontab management;

+ DB systems, including troubleshooting, maintenance and query execution;

+ Deploying Enterprise Java Applications, Web Applications, Enterprise Applications (war/ear files) and Configuration (using Deployment scripts and Admin console);

+ ITIL process, including Incident, Change, Problem, Service Request and Escalations; and

+ Cloud-based infrastructure, platform, and application operational administration including product and platform upgrades, installations, backup, recovery and monitoring.

+ Experience specified must include 3 years of experience with each of the following:

+ Operating and designing architecture based on most common Amazon Cloud services, including ALB, VPC, EC2, RDS, Cloud Formation, and Lambda;

+ Troubleshooting Docker containers and Tomcat applications;

+ Troubleshooting and debugging PostgreSQL from both administration and SQL language point of view;

+ Network troubleshooting skills including TCP/IP, DNS, and VPN;

+ Agile development methodology such as SCRUM;

+ Kafka, Elastic Search, and observability systems including Grafana Cloud; and

+ Bash/Shell, Python, or similar scripting languages to automate common tasks.

+ Telecommuting permitted up to 3 days a week.

+ Must live within normal commuting distance from the Pegasystems Inc. office in Dulles, VA.
