    Job Summary

    Responsible for developing objectives, policies, and procedures for the purchasing of goods and services for assigned categories/vendors. Oversee purchasing programs and processes and ensures adherence to approved quality and delivery standards. Select suppliers and negotiate for category items. Determine best practices and coordinate implementation.

    Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

    + Manages a designated category and associated vendors across an assigned region.

    + Maintains inventory, assists the purchasing offices in managing excess and dead stock, as well as implementing prevention controls for assigned categories/vendors.

    + Develops systems and tools in support of the purchasing function. Assists in determining system settings and areas of concern.

    + Act as a liaison between the field and vendors in terms of new product releases, excessive lead times, target determination, and vendor consolidation. Maintains a rapport with the sales and operations groups to ensure common goals and efficient processes.

    + Reviews reports and trend analyses related to category specific spending and current status versus goals. Performs global spend analysis annually for assigned category. Recommends and implements changes to achieve cost reductions and efficiencies.

    + Maintains fill rates per defined parameters for assigned categories/vendors. Assists with monitoring stock outs, identifying product with fluctuating demand and suggesting alternative methods to traditional purchasing processes.

    + Manages hiring, training, development and performance appraisals of associates. Oversees training for buyers and field to improve communication.

    Nature and Scope

    + Solutions require analysis and investigation.

    + Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience.

    + Manages a group or team of professional individual contributors and/or indirectly supervises support staff.

    Work Environment

    + Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

    + Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally there may be a requirement to stoop or lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).

    + Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

    Education and Experience

    + Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 7+ years of experience in a related field. May require certification. Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + The product focus of this role is Concrete, Accessories, and Chemicals.

    + 5-7+ years relevant work experience in product selection, forecasting and merchandizing - Required.

    + Must have analytical skills with financial acumen.

    + Must be articulate with good verbal, email, and presentation skills.

    + Must have a fundamental knowledge of purchasing principles.

    + Prior experience managing a team, remotely preferred.

    + Related industry experience in wholesale construction supplies.

    + Strong relationship building skills.

     

    This position may be remote, or hybrid based on location. Eligible candidates residing in the greater Atlanta area will be asked to work two days a week in our Doraville, GA Field Support Center.
