    Job Summary

    The Utah Clinical & Translational Science Institute ( CTSI ) ADD HYPERLINK https://ctsi.utah.edu Clinical Research Unit (**CRU )** is seeking an experienced clinical nurse to join our team!

     

    We are a collaborative clinical inpatient and outpatient nursing unit focused on patient care and fidelity to the research protocol. The ideal candidate should have a strong clinical background with detail-oriented skills. They must also communicate effectively and be proficient in various IT platforms.     This position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients and research participants by utilizing strong organizational and critical thinking skills to assess patient status, implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms, and develop and implement patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions, including but not limited to:

    1. Conducts patient assessments to identify, evaluate, and diagnose health issues, both actual and potential, through comprehensive interactions.

    2. Develops and implements strategic interventions to address patient care challenges effectively.

    3. Craft individualized care plans for patients, documenting the nursing process in their records accurately.

    4. Monitors and evaluates patient responses to interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary to achieve healthcare objectives

    5. Designs and delivers education for patients, their families, or significant others regarding post-discharge care.

    6. Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment is maintained for patient care and clinical trials.

    7. Provides leadership and direction to healthcare team members to uphold a high standard of patient care.

    8. Engages in continuing education to stay abreast of developments in nursing care practices.

    9. Guides and educates new staff

    10. Delivers direct patient care in alignment with established nursing protocols, physicians’ directives.

    11. Utilizes expertise in medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions to implement appropriate interventions during crises.

    12. Contributes to total quality management initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and improve system-wide care, including.

    Comments:

    The Clinical Nurse is authorized to make informed decisions within their scope, as outlined by the University of Utah Hospital’s Nursing Practice Department, unit-specific policies, standards, and the Nurse Practice Act. The role involves addressing complex issues related to patients and their families, identifying suitable nursing interventions during emergencies, and assessing and prioritizing patient needs effectively. The incumbent faces significant challenges, including addressing issues involving patients and their families, determining suitable nursing interventions during crisis or emergencies, and assessing and prioritizing the needs of patients. Incumbents must have the ability to function during regularly scheduled, 12 hour, extended, or alternative shifts; demonstrates both mental and emotional stamina in situations dealing with death, multiple patients, family members, etc.; function calmly and competently in high stress situations; and the ability to deal with the hazards involved in assessing and providing care to patients. Incumbents face exposure to potentially dangerous infections and contaminants as part of the daily hazards of the job. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required

    Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

     

    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.

     

    Preferred

     

    Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ), Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program ( NRP ) within one year of hire.

     

    This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

    + 2 years of clinical experience or direct clinical research experience expected
