Description
A research opportunity is currently available in the Office of Biostatistics and Pharmacovigilance (OBPV) at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Silver Spring, Maryland.
The fellow will help in the development of novel scientific algorithms and adopting existing tools. The primary objective of the fellow's project is to provide technical and scientific support to CBER in its efforts to enhance the development, operations, and management of FDA's HIVE infrastructure and scientific environment. This role contains applications that compute biological and scientific information.
Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will be involved in the **following activities:**
+ · Identify, test and import NGS datasets,
+ Design, develop and maintain bioinformatics protocols and pipelines,
+ Harmonization and result reporting of analyzed genomics datasets,
+ ·Communication of results and interpretation to a diverse audience, including senior FDA scientists, collaborators, and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ AA Degree in related discipline and six (6) years or more of related experience; Or, High School and eight (8) years of related experience with relevant certification.
+ Bachelors and 5- 7 years relevant experience preferred.
+ Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust.
+ Strong biological background, excellent knowledge of different experimental approaches, and the scientific problems they can address.
+ Familiarity with some of the primary sequencing tools (e.g. samtools, bedtools, GATK, BWA, Bowtie, IGV).
+ Hands-on experience with commercial and open-source bioinformatics and genomics analysis software (e.g. muTect, VarScan, VarDict, DESeq2).
+ Familiarity with publicly available data sources (e.g. TCGA, ENCODE, 1000 Genomes, ESP) and diverse genomic annotations.
+ Experience with R, Python or shell,
+ Excellent verbal and written communication,
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a security (public trust) clearance.
+ Proficiency developing/debugging software on Linux environments
Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
