    Interventional Radiologic Technologist - Imaging Special Procedures - Day/Evening/Night

     

    Schedule: Part Time

     

    Part Time (40 Hours/Biweekly)

     

    Shift: Day/Evening/Nights

     

    Monday - Friday

     

    No weekend or Holidays

     

    Position Function: Under the direction of a radiologist, performs Interventional Radiography procedures in conjunction with the Interventional Radiologist or Physician. Assists physician as requested in the selection of practical applications and technical factors.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

     

    1. Routinely demonstrates competency and adherence to all organizational safety directives and P&Ps including but not limited to: Fire, "Right to Know" (MSDS), Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control, Life Safety (Utilities) and department specific safety procedures as evidenced in daily performance of job functions and successful response to drills and incidents.

    2. Maintains minimal continuing education credits as required by ARRT and ISCD; proactively renews certifications/renewals before the due date without reminders from supervisor.

    3. Responds appropriately to emergency situations.

    4. Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff.

    5. States four intervention strategies based on age/population specific criteria exams; sensorimotor, cognitive, and psychosocial development.

    6. Accurately enters, updated, and edits ITS clinical/ demographic/technical information; utilizes EMR inquiry functions correctly.

    7. Able to demonstrate proper sterile technique, including the cleaning of assigned rooms daily and sanitizing surfaces between each patient.

    8. Able to demonstrate proper technique for catheters/guidewire exchanges, stitch removal, and power injector operation.

    9. Wears ID badge at chest level at all times; wears radiation badge outside lead apron.

    10. Annually demonstrates venipuncture competency and follows departmental policy routinely.

    11. Ensures that supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are stored in an organized and efficient manner.

    12. Verifies correct patient by checking wristband with the name on requisition and verbally identifying patient.

    13. Verifies correct procedure by checking; physician's orders in patients' chart; contacts nursing floor with any discrepancy.

    14. Questions all females within childbearing age about pregnancy using the standardized history sheet, with signature of patient and technologist.

    15. Obtains patient history using standardized form, as indicated.

    16. Explains procedures and educates the patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.

    17. Transports, transfers, and positions patient during the examination process and to appropriate locations post-procedure; adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body; routinely ensures that safety devices and restraints are used appropriately.

    18. Performs all studies with markers according to established protocol or sequence.

    19. Moves x-ray equipment into specified position and adjusts controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance, based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols.

    20. Operates portable and stationary Radiologic/fluoroscopic equipment to produce radiographs of body for diagnostic purposes.

    21. Practices radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patient and staff.

    22. Follows up procedures by checking Synapse for correct image and document transfer from modality.

    23. Maintains equipment and performs daily warm-up to the equipment.

    24. Routinely demonstrates accountability to the organization's ALARA, Core Values, Confidentiality, Customer Service, HIPAA, Infection Control, Patient Safety, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Federal rules in all interactions or assignments.

    25. Organizes and maintains patient supplies, ensures that items are available for patient care; keeps medications secure and/or under surveillance at all times. Notifies supervisor when working stock of supplies is getting low.

    26. Seeks knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences to stay productive in current positions.

    27. Completes assignments before end of shift, communicates outstanding issues to next shift for follow up.

    28. Completes SSAs/injury reports accurately and within 24 hours.

    29. Completes ARRT, ISCD and any other registry necessary to complete duties, without needing reminded by supervisors.

    30. Willingly shares knowledge and experience with students and shadowing visitors.

    31. Performs other related duties or tasks as directed or assigned.

    32. Performs the Time-out procedure before the start of the procedure using all required elements per hospital policy on Universal Protocol for Invasive Procedure Verification

     

    Qualifications and Standards

     

    Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved school of radiologic technology.

     

    Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required. One year current work experience working independently as circulating and scrub technologist in interventional radiology required. Depending on the hospital's need at the time the vacancy is to be filled, the department will consider on-the-job training of a technologist with at least one year of ARRT registered work experience. For an on-the-job training candidate, preferred experiences are in sterile technique, catheter and guidewire management.

     

    Certifications/Licensure: Registered in active status by the American Registry of Technologists (ARRT) required. Advanced certification for Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) registry is preferred. Current CPR/AED certification required.
