Position Summary
The successful candidate will provide support for research by conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing results and performing operational duties associated with the laboratory (bench and field), animal or human research. Research in the natural, health, physical and social sciences is included in this job family. Key areas of responsibilities include conducting research activities/experiments, collecting, analyzing and summarizing data, preparing reports, contributing to manuscripts/publications, administrative and project management, facilities and equipment management.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Biology or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an Biology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Additional requirements for this position are:
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Experience performing DNA, RNA, and protein preparation and purification
+ Experience performing PCR, qRT-PCR, DNA sequencing, mRNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, immunoblots, and immunohistochemistry
+ Experience with cell and tissue culture
The successful candidate should:
+ Have experience with mouse colony set up and maintenance including inbreeding and general animal husbandry is desirable
+ Have experience performing mouse dissection, including tracheostomy, lung ventilation, BAL collection and lung removal, is desirable
+ Have experience working with pigs, including lung removal and small airway dissection
+ Have experience with pig physiology and with animal lung ventilators
+ Have experience in operating, troubleshooting, cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment including spectrophotometer and centrifuge
+ Have experience with ordering lab supplies, maintaining EHS compliance and training graduate students
+ Have experience working in an academic research institution environment
+ Have experience creating and maintaining lab databases is desirable
+ Have experience compiling data, performing data analyses and writing summary reports
