The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) Program is seeking a Cloud Monitoring Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) with the implementation and maintenance of monitoring, logging, and observability tools in cloud and hybrid environments. This role is crucial to maintaining high availability, performance, and security across mission-critical cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and implement monitoring and observability solutions in Azure and AWS environments using tools such as Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, Microsoft Sentinel, and Splunk.
• Develop alerting strategies for system health, performance metrics, and security events to enable timely incident response.
• Maintain and tune dashboards, alerts, and telemetry pipelines to provide real-time visibility into cloud workloads.
• Collaborate with cloud engineers, developers, and cybersecurity teams to identify monitoring requirements and build customized solutions.
• Integrate log collection and event correlation systems to support incident investigations and audit readiness.
• Support compliance with federal logging mandates, including NIST 800-53 and FedRAMP continuous monitoring controls.
• Automate monitoring deployment and configuration using scripts, templates, or infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Document monitoring architecture, alerting thresholds, and operational response playbooks.
Required Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience implementing monitoring and logging solutions in cloud environments.
• Experience with tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, AWS CloudWatch, Microsoft Sentinel, or Splunk.
• Proficiency in designing metrics, log aggregation, dashboards, and automated alerting systems.
• Strong understanding of cloud operations and monitoring best practices.
• Familiarity with NIST 800-53 and FedRAMP logging and audit control requirements.
• Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, or Bash) for automation and integration tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or Cybersecurity.
• Azure certifications (AZ-500, SC-200) or AWS certifications (Cloud Practitioner, Security Specialty).
• Experience supporting IL4/IL5 environments or federal monitoring requirements.
• Familiarity with SIEM tools, SOAR platforms, or centralized event management frameworks.
• Exposure to container monitoring in Kubernetes or Azure AKS.

The proposed salary range for this position is:
$104,200-$229,200
