Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer

Primary Location: Reston, VA or Washington, DC

Clearance: Top-Secret (TS) Clearance

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of experience to lead and support complex IT infrastructure projects, with emphasis on network systems, virtualization, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, and systems integration. This role requires deep technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work across multiple domains in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in designing, managing, and optimizing both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure, while also mentoring junior staff and coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

•    Design, implement, and maintain complex network infrastructure, including server environments and attached devices.

•    Provide direct operational support for network hardware and operating systems, including performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

•    Lead the design and integration of network operating systems and infrastructure for voice and data communications.

•    Configure, install, test, and support network hardware/software and ensure compatibility across all components.

•    Perform system management and integration functions including virtualization, patch management, backup and storage systems.

•    Maintain network protocol standards including TCP/IP and ensure systems remain compliant with all approved patches.

•    Troubleshoot issues at both physical (hardware) and logical (software/protocol) levels.

•    Provide Tier-3 support and consult with internal IT staff, delivering technical training and documentation when needed.

•    Participate in Agile-based project planning, sprint reviews, and backlog grooming using JIRA and Confluence.

•    Develop and maintain SOPs, quick reference guides, and system documentation.

•    Design and implement client/server architecture and strategies, ensuring secure and efficient system operations.

•    Advise management on technology solutions, future projects feasibility, and infrastructure scalability.

Required Qualifications:

•    Active Top Secret clearance (required).

•    8+ years of experience in systems engineering, network infrastructure, or IT operations.

•    Strong scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, JSON, and YAML.

•    Deep understanding of virtualization technologies, network administration, and systems integration.

•    Proven experience with AWS (GovCloud, C2S, SC2S) including services like EC2, EFS, EBS, SQS, DLQ, Lambda, SNS.

•    Familiarity with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and enterprise antivirus solutions.

•    Proficient in log management, SSH, and Splunk (dashboards, monitoring, and alerts).

•    Experience with Cross Domain Systems such as Everfox or Forcepoint.

•    Hands-on with GitLab, Agile methodologies, JIRA, and Confluence for team collaboration and project tracking.

•    Deep understanding of networking principles and tools.

•    Ability to design, deploy, and secure complex enterprise systems and provide high-level technical support.

•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Industry certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CISSP, Security+, Microsoft certifications).

•    Experience with system certification and accreditation processes.

•    Familiarity with government IT environments and security compliance frameworks.
