Position: 0.90 FTE Teaching Assistant (multiple positions available)

Depending on location, this position may involve direct work with students with autism, emotional and/or developmental disabilities which may include, but are not limited to, oppositional and aggressive behaviors; mood disorders; and potentially severe and unpredictable physical and/or verbal outbursts. Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher and complete related work as required. The duties of this position may require specific skills and abilities based on the students’ needs and/or program, including but not limited to:
• Have ability to work with a diverse population of students. • Support students to ensure a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning. • Implement specialized instruction to students with emotional and learning disabilities. • Collaborate with colleagues and assist teacher to meet student learning needs. • Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders. • Assist students with daily living skills (dressing, toileting, feeding, etc.), as applicable. • Assist with maintaining record keeping. • Attend staff meetings and trainings. • Promote equity and culturally responsive practices to create inclusive environments.

Job Qualifications
Only candidates who hold NYS Teaching Assistant certification.
Certification is required by the New York State Education Department - "Any person employed, as a teaching assistant, shall hold of one of the following credentials: temporary license, continuing certificate; or a Level I, II, III or Pre-Professional certificate. However, if an individual holds a teaching, pupil personnel, or administrative certificate, he or she need not also obtain a temporary license, continuing certificate, Level I, II, III or Pre-Professional certificate to serve as a teaching assistant, unless required by the employing district."
Job responsibility may require individual to do one and two person lifts and/or physical interventions on a daily basis with students weighing 50-200 pounds. Position requires the successful completion of all elements of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training. Initial and refresher TCI Trainings are provided by W-FL BOCES.
