Job Summary and Qualifications

The GI technician provides technical assistance during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The GI technician is responsible for ensuring the procedure rooms and equipment are prepared and for ensuring endoscopes are processed using appropriate techniques. The GI Technician accepts assignments from the licensed nurse that are commensurate with his/her experience, knowledge and ability. The GI technician is responsible for performing clerical and receptionist duties, requisitioning supplies, equipment, and services from other departments. The GI Technician may be required to take after-hours, weekend, and holiday call on a rotating basis.

What you will do in this role:

+ Weekends and holidays required per unit protocol and needs. May be required to take call as needed.

+ Clearly communicate verbally and in written form.

+ Inspect office equipment and/or medical equipment; trouble-shoot as needed.

+ Utilize reasoning and problem-solving skills.

+ Wet: frequent contact with water or other liquid.

+ May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.

+ May be exposed to hazards of handling diseased tissues.

+ Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases.

+ May be exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids and wastes.

+ Occasionally exposed to radiation hazards.

+ Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment.

+ Exposed to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals.

+ Exposed to explosive chemicals, gases and low level radiation.

+ Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit environment.

+ Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances.

+ Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.

+ Handles emergency or crisis situations.

+ May perform emergency care.

+ Subject to many interruptions.

+ Occasionally subjected to irregular hours.

+ Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

+ May be required to wear protective equipment such as eye protection, face protection, masks, sterile/non-sterile gloves, isolation gowns.

+ Handles absentee replacement on short notice.

+ Other responsibilities as deemed necessary.

What qualifications you will need:

+ Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

+ One year hospital or related medical experience is preferred.
