    Position description

    The Visual and Performing Arts Education Program (VAPAE) in the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture offers an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental series of courses designed to introduce undergraduates to the key issues and methodologies in the field of arts education for multiple publics and to a broad range of possible career paths including teaching artistry, K-12 teaching, museum education, socially-engaged arts practice, creative arts therapies, and arts advocacy.

     

    VAPAE is committed to creating a diverse pool of candidates for potential part-time teaching positions during each academic year. VAPAE is now interested in meeting qualified candidates to teach its Arts Ed 101 - Selected Topics in Arts Education elective course.

    Applicants may submit course proposals and accompanying syllabi that support any of the below concentrations:

    Concentration 1: Strategies and Methods in Teaching the Arts Students focus on the understanding, acquisition, development and implementation of best pedagogical practices in creative arts education.

     

    Concentration 2: Arts in the Community Students look closely at creative models for community cultural development through socially engaged arts education and applied teaching artistry.

     

    Concentration 3: Teaching the Arts in Non-traditional Settings and with Special Populations Students develop specialized skills in arts education to meet the needs of specific student populations, as well as a critical understanding of those particular teaching contexts.

     

    Concentration 4: Social-Emotional Learning in the Arts Students engage with Social-Emotional Learning, both experientially and theoretically, to explore best practices for integrating SEL into arts education.

     

    Concentration 5: Interdisciplinary Arts Teaching Students integrate their understanding and practice of arts education into other academic fields (e.g., human development, health, disabilities studies, or others), looking closely at cross-disciplinary applications and outcomes.

     

    Applicants may submit letters of intent, course proposals and/ or accompanying syllabi that pertain to and/or support the themes and topics as described above.

     

    Minimum Qualifications: MA required, MFA or PhD preferred; relevant professional experience.
