    Position description

The Visual and Performing Arts Education Program (VAPAE) in the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture offers an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental series of courses designed to introduce undergraduates to the key issues and methodologies in the field of arts education for multiple publics and to a broad range of possible career paths including teaching artistry, K-12 classroom teaching, museum education, socially-engaged arts practice, creative arts therapies, and arts advocacy.

Applicants may submit course proposals and accompanying syllabi to teach the core Arts Education Teaching Sequence, guiding students from educational theory into practice. VAPAE is creating a pool of candidates for potential part-time teaching positions in arts education. The courses listed below require varied perspectives or pedagogy and as a result the appointment will not be renewed.

The Arts Education Teaching Sequence (AETS) is an essential component of the VAPAE minor. It comprises three courses (Arts Ed M102, M192, M192XP) in which selected undergraduates explore core issues in arts education, creativity, and social justice. Students are then assigned to K-12 classrooms in the Los Angeles area, where they first observe and then implement a four-to-five-week sequential arts-based unit plan under the supervision of a credentialed guiding teacher. These AETS courses are offered each year, and students may begin the sequential coursework in the Fall or Spring quarters.
