Summary The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment. Responsibilities This position is located within the Prisoner Processing Section (PPS), Special Operations Division (SOD), Operational Services Bureau (OSB). PPS is responsible for processing all prisoners brought into the USCP Prisoner Processing Area and receiving and storing lost and found property from departmental entities. As an SOD Prisoner Processer, you will: Conducts and records daily checks of the prisoner processing facility to ensure that all safety measures and equipment are in place regarding prisoner intakes, processing, and outtakes. Transports prisoners to the Prisoner Processing facility and searches the prisoners. Processes prisoners brought into the Prisoner Processing facility and ensures paperwork is complete timely. Receives and records prisoners' property and securely stores the items until prisoners are released. Receives and records found property brought to PPS from departmental entities and securely stores the items until items are released. Assists with alcohol and drug driving arrests by serving as the Intoximeter Operator and obtains two valid samples from the prisoner. Testifies in court regarding alcohol arrests and/or contraband cases that come through PPS. Livescans all prisoners before they are cited, released, or presented to the Central Cell Block (CCB) and obtain all necessary paperwork. Provides support for Mass Arrest situations. Maintains all paperwork related to the issuance of the PD 61D form. Oversees the safety and well-being of all prisoners during all phases of prisoner processing (intakes, processing, and outtakes). Note: Multiple vacancies exist. The number of SOD Prisoner Processer positions will be determined by the needs of the Department. The selection list will be active for a period of one (1) year from the date of approval of the selection memorandum unless an applicant withdraws in writing his/her application. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a current USCP officer below the rank of Sergeant. Must have and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license. Must successfully complete all the required training. Must be able to work additional hours to support Congressional duties. Must attain a technician certificate from Intoximeter in the proper use and maintenance of the Intoximeter Instrument. Qualifications 1. Must be a USCP officer below the rank of Sergeant and have attained the rank of Private with Training by the closing date of this announcement. 2. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the closing date of this announcement. 3. Must be in full and unrestricted duty status as of the closing date of this announcement unless otherwise authorized by law (e.g., performance of duty injury, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA)). 4. Must possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. driver's license. 5. Must be available to work flexible and for additional hours on short notice. Education There is no education substitution for experience in this series and/or grade. This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions. This position is included in a collective bargaining unit. An applicant may request to be removed from consideration by sending a written request to the Office of Human Resources. RETENTION CRITERIA 1. Must pass the basic 40-hour training for standardized field sobriety tests (SFST). 2. Must successfully complete the two-week formalized Prisoner Processing Training and Evaluation Program including completion of the 40-hour Basic Intoximeter Instrument Training. 3. Satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period beginning on the date of completion of the Prisoner Processing Training Program.
