    Duties Description The Public Safety Program Specialist 2 (Missing Persons), will act as an investigative Supervisor in the Missing Persons Clearinghouse (MPC). Services provided by the MPC include investigative support to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies; coordination of efforts with parents, left-behind family members, attorneys, courts, law enforcement, state and county government, and private agencies in the search for and recovery of missing and unidentified persons; and delivery of training programs for law enforcement and community outreach programs. Specific duties for this position include but are not limited to:• Supervise second shift (4pm-12am) investigative specialists.• Provide staff training.• Evaluate incoming missing persons cases.• Review case intake and investigations.• Review, evaluate and properly disseminate leads on missing and unidentified persons.• Perform all case related duties as necessary, which include:o Answer the MPC hotline.o Gather and evaluate information regarding missing children, college students, and vulnerable adults; determine the urgency of each case and take appropriate action.o Publicize cases of missing children, college students, and vulnerable adults via the DCJS public website, National Clearinghouse for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) website, NY Alert, and other poster services.o Assist the program manager of the unit with the coordination of the Missing Child, Missing College Student, and Vulnerable Adult Alert Programs.o Conduct database searches on cases of missing children, college students, and vulnerable adults; analyze results and take appropriate action. o Assist federal, state, and local agencies in the investigation of cases involving missing and exploited children, missing college students, and missing vulnerable adults.• Provide on-call coverage when needed.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: One year of service as Public Safety Program Specialist 1 or seven years of qualifying experience* as a law enforcement officer or law enforcement trainer in a local, state, or federal police agency.*Investigative support experience supporting missing person investigations can include any level of experience or number of instances of involvement with a missing person report or investigation. An associates degree or 60 credit hours may substitute for two years of general experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of general experience Promotional: One (1) year of services as a Public Safety Program Specialist 1 (Missing Persons), SG-18. Preferred Qualifications: Prior law enforcement experience; prior supervisory experience; proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and strong verbal communication skills.
