Scope of Job
To provide support in the operation and coordination of the UTRGV Agroecology Program and Hub of Prosperity Farm.
Description of Duties
+ Coordinates program activities at UTRGV’s Hub of Prosperity Farm and Agroecology Research Garden to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives.
+ Supervises assigned day-to-day activities and personnel of the Agroecology Program including outdoor farm maintenance activities.
+ Participates in planning and developing methods for program implementation and administration, coordinates program activities including the weekly farmers market and other outreach events.
+ Performs on-site reviews and reports activities and resolutions of project operating issues with project staff. ·
+ May represent department in official functions. ·
+ Drafts brochures, letters, agendas, and contracts. ·
+ Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars related to the program’s mission and goals.
+ Reviews records and reports of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified program objective; recommends modifications to methods or procedures as required to redirect activities and ensure that objective is attained.
+ Supervises and organizes seminars, conferences, and presentations.
+ May participate in preparing grant proposals to state and federal agencies and private foundations.
+ May conduct training or instruction in an outdoor or classroom setting.
+ Interacts with faculty, staff and students to promote the goals and objective of the program.
+ Assists in preparing reports, proposals, manuals, and other documentation as required for the program.
+ Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations associated with and/or receiving benefit from the program.
+ Operates various farm equipment and machinery including power hand tools, weed eaters, lawnmowers, and tractors and Research field equipment, irrigation systems in an outdoor environment that may require proper on-site training from areas such as Environmental Health and Safety & Risk Management or Facilities Trades department.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Agriculture, Environmental Science, Biology or a related field from an accredited university.

Required Experience
+ One (1) year of agricultural or outdoor work experience or experience in the appropriate field of the program,or
+ Three (3) years of the required experience with an Associate Degree or 60 hours of College Credit,or
+ Five (5) years of the required experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Equipment
Farm equipment such as hand tools (shovels, hoes, broadfork, Earthway seeder), power tools (drill, table saw, jigsaw), wheelbarrow, irrigation systems, weedeater, lawnmower, BCS walk-behind tractor, and a John Deere 3038e tractor. Field research equipment such as soil probes, data loggers, and sensors. Specialized equipment may require on-site training from Environmental Health & Safety or Facilities Trades Department.
As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is typically conducted in an outside environment with some indoor office work. Some travel and weekend work are required. Ability to drive a car for local or distant travel for consultation, training, meetings, or on-site demonstrations is preferred. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach and lift for basic outdoor farm maintenance tasks. Must be able to work outside under hot and humid conditions. Must be able to move between buildings, offices and classrooms. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Other
Must demonstrate effective project promotion skills, and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relations with internal and external agencies and entities. Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, students, and the public. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
