    We are looking for a Senior Asphalt Technologist to join our Monomers team in Wyandotte, MI.

    As a Senior Asphalt Technologist, you will provide technical service solutions in relation to our asphalt industry modification initiative. You will be supporting our growing business in asphalt related solutions for construction applications as a part of our research and technical team within our industry conversion team.

     

    As a Senior Asphalt Technologist, you create chemistry by...

     

    + Maintaining consistent asphalt testing and research services within the Monomers (CM) business unit according to BASF’s quality protocols, this includes abiding by all safety rules, guidelines, and standards, participating in pre-task planning, and reporting any safety issues or concerns to management.

    + Coordinating the internal and external activities of the CM asphalt laboratory, ensuring timely execution of work in accordance with project requirements and company policies. This also includes coordinating inter-departmental and inter-office activities involving laboratory personnel, commercial account teams, technical services, and business development for SBU asphalt-related initiatives.

    + Engaging with prospective and existing customers to translate laboratory research into impactful commercial asphalt applications. In line with this you will be responsible of providing technical support, pre-sales, and ongoing customer technical engagement, including formulations, technical assessments, and trial support, as well as offering strategic technical support to commercial team leadership to achieve business metrics, targets, and goals.

    + Calibrating and maintaining asphalt binder laboratory equipment, utilizing experience in AASHTO and ASTM related laboratory testing procedures. You will also oversee the calibration and maintenance of internal laboratory equipment to ensure quality standards on all projects.

    + Preparing asphalt binder samples and customer formulations, facilitating ongoing customer technical evaluations.

    + Supporting business development and management initiatives by developing and promoting new technical concepts relevant to business needs, including customer sampling, testing, evaluation, and trial support.

     

    If you...

     

    + Hold a bachelor's degree in Chemistry; Civil Engineering; Materials Science; or at least 5+ years of asphalt industry experience. Masters or Doctorate in a related field a plus.

    + Have 1+ years of New Business Development, Marketing, and sales support or an equivalent blend of experience and education, it will be highly valued.

    + Possess customer facing Technical Service experience and experience leading innovative initiatives and teams

    + Have experience with asphalt and asphalt chemical additives, as well as experience in AASHTO and ASTM related laboratory testing procedures.

    + Are able and willing to travel 50% of the time to support customer trials
