This position is part of the Government Integrated Print Services, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia. Responsibilities Complete assigned tasks according to oral and written instructions. Operate labor savers to handle weights and loads. Establish item and material locations in accordance with established regulations. Recommend improvements through processes to avoid delays in work. Ensure proper operation of materials handling equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the PPW (Materials Handler) Work Leader, KX -6907-00, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a PPW (Material Handler) Work Leader. These duties require skill in the following: Initiates work and ensures instructions and information received from the supervisor are relayed to other workers. Ensures the necessary materials and tools are available for use prior to performing work assignments. Distributes daily work assignments, periodically checks work in progress and upon completion to make sure the supervisor's instructions on procedures, methods, and deadlines are met. Ensures all safety regulations, housekeeping rules and practices are adhered to. Ensures the materials handling equipment is operated in a safe condition. Applicants must meet SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT (Job Element #1): Ability to Do the Work of the Position without more than normal supervision. Typical duties of this position are: (1) lead Printing Plant Workers by providing guidance and direction to accomplish work involving the receipt, storage and distribution of bulk and less than bulk materials, supplies, and paper; (2) initiate work and ensure instructions and information received is relayed to workers; (3) distribute tasks and workload to lower level employees; and (4) demonstrate proper work methods and techniques to employees. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (05/28/2025) to be considered. Education Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. Background Investigation: For a Suitability: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
