    Oura is seeking a Director, Sensing Technologies to lead the development and integration of advanced sensing technologies into our wearable devices. You will be a key driver in defining our sensing roadmap, evaluating new sensor technologies, and optimizing sensor performance to provide accurate and reliable health insights to our users.

    What You'll Do:

    + Technical Leadership: Build out and lead a team of hardware, optics, and sensing engineers to develop new capabilities and technologies for wearable devices.

    + Sensing Technology Roadmap: Help define and drive the long-term sensing technology roadmap for Oura's wearable devices, aligning with product strategy and user needs.

    + Sensor Evaluation: Research, evaluate, and select new sensor technologies, including PPG, accelerometers, gyroscopes, temperature sensors, and emerging sensing modalities.

    + Sensor Integration: Lead the integration of sensors into our devices, optimizing sensor placement, signal conditioning, and data acquisition.

    + Sensor Performance Optimization: Develop and implement algorithms and techniques to improve sensor accuracy, reliability, and power efficiency.

    + Algorithm Development: Collaborate with data science and algorithm teams to develop signal processing and machine learning algorithms for sensor data analysis.

    + Vendor Management: Manage relationships with sensor vendors, negotiating specifications, and ensuring quality and timely delivery.

    + Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical engineering, firmware, software, and product management teams to ensure seamless sensor integration and data flow.

    + System-Level Optimization: Optimize the overall sensing system, including hardware, firmware, and software, to achieve optimal performance and power consumption.

    + Testing and Validation: Define and oversee sensor testing and validation plans to ensure performance and reliability.

    + Technology Scouting: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in sensing technologies, attending conferences, and engaging with research institutions.

    Requirements

    + 10+ years of experience in developing and integrating sensing technologies, preferably in wearable devices, medical devices, or a related industry.

    + Deep understanding of sensor principles, including optical, inertial, and physiological sensors.

    + Experience with sensor signal processing and algorithm development.

    + Strong knowledge of sensor calibration and validation techniques.

    + Experience with sensor hardware design and integration.

    + Familiarity with low-power design principles.

    + Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data analysis skills.

    + Strong communication, presentation, and leadership skills.

    + Ability to manage and mentor a team of engineers.

    Bonus Points If You Also Have:

    + Experience with developing sensing technologies for health and wellness applications.

    + Knowledge of machine learning techniques for sensor data analysis.

    + Experience with developing and validating algorithms for PPG, ECG, or other physiological signals.

    + Familiarity with regulatory requirements for medical devices.

    + Experience with MEMS technology.

    Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

     

    A recruiter can determine your zones/tiers based on your US location.

    + San Francisco Base Compensation Range: $206,000 - $257,000
