The pay range is $95,000.00 - $171,000.00

As a Senior Engineer at Target, you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product. You help develop and gain insight in the application architecture. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. You show expertise in applying the appropriate software engineering patterns to build robust and scalable systems. You are an expert in programming and apply your skills in developing the product. You have the skills to design and implement the architecture on your own but choose to influence your fellow engineers by proposing software designs, providing feedback on software designs and/or implementation. You show good problem-solving skills and can help the team in triaging operational issues. You leverage your expertise in eliminating repeat occurrences.

The Financial Products and Services (FP&S) strengthens guest loyalty, sales and profitability by providing exceptional enterprise services and payment solutions. FPS team members are the voice of Target to our guests. FPS delivers innovative payment solutions and keeps our team member, guest and company information secure.
What We Do
The team develops and supports essential systems that allow B2B clients to order Target Gift Cards and manage the authorization process for Target Debit Card transactions.
+ **Digital Commerce Platform:** Develops and manages an direct to client platform for the B2B Gift Card ordering system, supporting the sale of Target gift cards.
+ **Target Debit Card:** Provides authorization decisions for Target Debit Card tender requests for both in-store and online transactions and supports systems that assist guests in enrolling for Target Debit Cards.
As a Senior Engineer on our team, you will play a key role in developing new capabilities for our Guests and B2B clients, becoming a critical contributor to the success of the company. The ideal candidate will be proficient in full-stack technologies such as Kotlin, Java, React, Next.js, and API development, with a strong understanding of database technologies and distributed systems. We are looking for a self-driven individual with a strong sense of ownership, ready to collaborate within a large, distributed team that values inclusivity, courage, and curiosity.
Job Responsibilities:
+ Develop full-stack Services: Design, develop, deploy, and maintain full-stack services, including both frontend and backend components, using technologies such as Kotlin, Java, Micronaut, React, Next.js, Spring Boot, and more.
+ API Development: Create secure APIs and manage them to facilitate seamless integration with various systems and services.
+ Building robust event driven distributed systems: Design and build robust, event-driven distributed systems using technologies like Kafka, ensuring high availability, horizontal scalability, and deterministic behavior.
+ Build Caching systems: Implement effective caching techniques to optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, embracing a one-team culture to ensure alignment and integration across platforms.
+ Inclusivity and Teamwork: Foster an inclusive environment where all team members feel valued and empowered to contribute.

About you:
+ 4-year degree or equivalent experience
+ 4+ years of software development experience
Tech skills:
+ Proficiency in Kotlin, Java, Typescript, and frameworks like Micronaut, React, Next.js is preferred.
+ Strong experience in database technologies like PostgreSQL, MongoDB
+ Strong experience with API development and integration.
+ Knowledge of caching techniques, distributed systems and performance optimization.
+ Experience with open-source technologies such as Kafka, Jenkins, Vela, GitHub, Open Telemetry, Grafana, InfluxDB
Soft skills:

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
