    Position Overview

    Under minimum supervision, the Electronic Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, calibrating, repairing, and overhauling all electronic, logic, and digital equipment and electromechanical devices used for fare collection by the MTA. The technician will maintain records of work performed and perform related duties as assigned.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Preparing, performing, and completing any assigned work related to the Fare Collection System equipment across various locations associated with MTA operations.

    • Setting up equipment for testing and conducting repairs, replacements, and adjustments with minimal supervision.

    • Observing, identifying, and reporting unsafe or irregular conditions.

    • Exercising sound judgment regarding all aspects of assigned duties

    • Maintaining all records and forms in compliance with MTA regulations.

    Essential Functions:

    • Read and accurately interpret blueprints, instruction sheets, manuals, and wiring diagrams.

    • Identify defective conditions in fare collection equipment; diagnose causes and make necessary adjustments, repairs, or replacements.

    • Be proficient in using complex electrical test equipment, including ammeters, ohmmeters, and voltmeters.

    • Make emergency repairs to fare collection equipment to maintain public service with minimal delay.

    • Perform periodic inspections and preventive maintenance on fare collection equipment.

    • Must be physically able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds

    • Must be physically able to climb, stoop, and crawl to reach work.

    • Explain and demonstrate procedures to others when directed by supervisory personnel.

    • Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.

     

    The current vacancies are at the Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA), in Baltimore, Maryland.

     

    The current work schedule varies on a 24-hour shift.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency (GED) certificate

     

    Experience: Five (5) years of experience working in the field of electro-mechanics, including logic systems, digital circuitry, and electro-mechanical devices.

    SUBSTITUTION

    Up to four years of the required experience may be substituted for completion of a four-year vocational or technical high school course of instruction in electronics, electricity, mechanics, and/or electro-mechanical maintenance or a related field, formal technical training, or on-the-job training in an approved apprenticeship program.

     

    Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations, or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

     

    NOTE: All qualified applicants will take a written examination to fill current and future vacancies.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    1. Employees may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call-back requirements.

    2. Employee may be required to work shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends.

    3. Employees may be exposed to a variety of hazards that require the wearing of protective clothing and the use of appropriate safety and personal protective equipment.

    4. Employees in this position are considered "Essential Employees" and will be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.

    5. Eligible applicants may be subject to a background investigation under Federal and State laws and regulations. A conviction is not an automatic disqualification from employment. Erroneous, misleading, or fraudulent information on the application is sufficient grounds for rejection from the hiring process, removal from the list of eligibles, withdrawal of an offer for employment, or immediate discharge.

    6. Employees in this classification are subject to pre-employment drug testing and substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49-Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules and Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

     

    Licenses & Certifications

     

    Applicants must possess a Driver's License valid in the State of Maryland. Applicants must list the license number and date of expiration on the application.
