    ** This is a hybrid role based out of SAP Bellevue office 3 days per week. **

     

    What you'll do

     

    You combine your technical expertise with leadership and excellent communication skills. You demonstrate deep knowledge of business processes, and you take a broader business perspective including aspects of people management, financials, planning, as well as enablement of supporting teams. You lead a team of engineers, product managers and architects to reach the outcome.

     

    In addition, you are still equipped with a hands-on and can-do mentality focusing on outcomes and a strong delivery attitude, in order to be empathetic and solution-oriented toward the diverse developer community of SAP Product Engineering and our customers and partners.

     

    In your role as AI & Developer Productivity Development Architect, you will report to the Chief of Architecture and you will be directly responsible for the internal groups’ engineering productivity. You will measure, discover, develop, prototype, launch and drive initiatives to improve the engineering efficiency, for development, designing, visual modeling, threat modeling, presentations, testing, at a technical level.

    Responsibilities:

    + Understand the team execution, challenges and time spent opportunities

    + Combine artistic ingenuity with engineering proficiency and drive exciting new ways of modernizing development activities.

    + Is self-motivating and can lead and execute with accuracy, following diligent reporting.

    + Drive the engineering adherence to KPIs and goals for efficiency through the organization.

    + Evolve SAP’s product and architecture strategy including the NorthStar architecture to incorporate new AI-driven practices.

    + Participate and drive recruiting efforts for the growth of the team.

    + Desire to drive the next wave of innovation, staying on top of technology trends and developments.

    + Drive decisions in alignment with various teams from the T&I and the PE board areas on a broad set of technologies.

    + Drive mechanisms to ensure quality of delivery while accelerating traditional methods of collaboration and agile development.

    + Consistently raise standards with respect to engineering excellence, and software delivery, insisting on the best and drive a continuous improvement culture.

    + Drive adoption of LLM-specific development tooling and similar activities.

    + Lead the execution of prototypes and initiatives.

    + Be a very good communicator not only across country and company borders, but also across different roles within SAP for complex topics.

    What you bring

    + MA/MS/Diploma/PhD in a business or a technical field of study from an accredited college or university

    + 10 years of relevant professional experience, a portion of which was within a global enterprise software company

    + Demonstratable knowledge of the technology landscape for LLM-powered productivity tools like Microsoft Co-Pilot, Cursor, Windsurf (formerly Codeium).

    + Demonstratable knowledge of understanding Model Ops, Model Management, costing projections of AI tooling.

    + Demonstratable experience of driving, leading (technically or managerial) engineering transformation projects.

    + History of leading projects and performing in a variety of different roles in the software development life cycle from initiation to adoption by a large number of customers

    + Demonstrated ability to share and communicate ideas to executive staff, business sponsors, technical resources and other key constituents in clear, concise language

    + Excellent English language skills, both oral and in writing, German language skills are a plus

    + Proficiency with several software languages at expert levels required (e.g. Java, .NET, node.js, Go, Python, ABAP, ..) and strong skills in modern cloud technologies (Messaging, SQL, NoSQL, ..), cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCO, ..), as well as related Open Source Software (Spark, Flink, Cassandra, ..)

    + Extensive experience in cloud computing, enterprise application development, distributed horizontally scalable systems, transaction processing, API design, web services design and security

    + Strong analytical problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to react quickly to changing requirements due to product limitations or driven by enterprise needs

    + Understanding of SAP BTP offerings (such as CAP, Build), BTP Kyma is a strong plus.

    The Application Foundation Team owns the mission of improving efficiency across SAP and enable the Application and Service Teams to deliver value to customers at low cost. To achieve this, the team will own consolidated functions that power the creation of Enterprise business applications, reducing the need for redundancy across SAP, including, but not limited to, Engineering Platforms, Cloud Deployment, Extensibility, Scaled Execution, Cloud Reliability, Reference Data and SDK, Location data, Production and Release Services, Compliance Services, Storage Management and Caching, Master Data, Business Process and Workflow, etc. Application Foundation is the Enterprise Glue for all of SAP. This group operates with sites across 13 countries and has thousands of Engineers.

    **Compensation Range Transparency** : SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 180,000 - 420,200 USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
