    Job Description:

    Database Development & Management:

    + Full responsibility for working with UF OnCore IT, Epic, CTSI RedCap staff to improve and evolve the database storage ability for our specific needs, and capacity to enable better reporting functions.

    + Provide reporting for weekly and monthly departmental meetings as requested by Faculty. Provide self-auditing functions of the bank database monthly to provide ongoing updates to the process and procedure of bank operations.

    + Design, implement, and maintain a secure, scalable, and user-friendly database

    + Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.

    + Develop data entry protocols and quality control measures. Generate reports and assist in data analysis to support research projects.

    + Integrating clinical, pathological, and tissue-specific data for brain tumor specimens in a self-populating RedCap interface.

    Specimen Collection & Processing:

    + Obtain informed consent from patients for tissue donation in compliance with IRB protocols.

    + Assist investigators with activities related to banking specimens, and release of tissue to researchers. Responsible to oversee the coordination of tissue transport between the operating room and Clinical Trial staff, for vaccine trials. Coordinate with neurosurgeons, pathologists, and OR staff to collect bio-specimens during surgery.

    + Assist neuro-pathologists during tissue preparation for storage. Coordinate acquiring, handling, processing, storing and distributing bio-specimens to any and all IRB approved projects at institutions requesting tissue, both domestic and international.

    + Process and store specimens following standard operating procedures (SOPs) for bio-banking. Maintain an organized, traceable inventory of collected specimens

    Collaboration & Research Support:

    + Work closely with researchers to provide bio-specimens and corresponding data for approved projects.

    + Facilitate the export of tissue and data to internal and external collaborators while ensuring compliance with institutional policies.

    + Assist in grant applications, progress reports, and publications requiring biobank data.

    + Assist with the planning and preparation for the FCBTR annual meeting in cooperation with the ReMission Alliance.

    Regulatory Compliance & Quality Control:

    + Responsible or all aspects of the Florida Center for Brain Tumor Research bio-bank, including daily checks of freezer operations, back up systems and alarm systems, general maintenance of equipment including temperature logs. Ordering and organizing essential supplies such as sterile gloves, surgical scalpels etc. Responding to alarms via text or phone alerts, 24 hours per day as needed. Provide statistical data as needed.

    + Ensure compliance with all institutional, federal, and ethical guidelines related to human tissue banking and data management. Maintain accurate documentation for regulatory and IRB audits. Develop and update SOPs for biobank operation.

    + Responsible for coordinating with participating centers and their staff to collect IRB approvals, requests for tissue for research, and processing and storage of samples from participating centers, as requested. This requires intricate knowledge of the bar-coding storage system and retrieval methods

    Expected Salary:

    $78,000-$83,000

     

    Required Qualifications:Master's degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

    Preferred:

    + Experience in building databases and database management

    + Experience with RedCap, Oncore, EPIC and Hipergator preferred, with large data set management experience in research. Extensive knowledge and experience with data management, analytics and metrics.

    + Knowledge of terminology, principles, equipment and techniques used in a bio-repository laboratory. Ability to perform blood processing and separation of blood products for storage. Ability to process brain tumor specimens for storage.

    + Experience with bio-banking principles, bio-specimen handling, processing techniques. Understanding of sterile technique and aseptic technique.

    + Experience with clinical research patient/participant consent process preferred

    + Familiarity with IRB protocols, human subject research regulations, and ethical considerations in bio-banking.

    + Background in oncology, bio-specimens, neuroscience, neurosurgery and proficiency in statistical analysis or bioinformatics tools are all helpful.
