    Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County has an opening for a full-time Nutrition Counselor working from the Jamestown, NY office.

     

    The Nutrition Counselor for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County will primarily be responsible for delivery of nutrition counseling services to eligible Chautauqua county residents referred for services from partnering organizations, with the objective of improving healthy food and lifestyle choices among families and individuals encompassing all age groups.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Health Education, and/or Public Health. • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist (CDN).• 2 years volunteer or related work experience relevant to the role of the position.• Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.• Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.• Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods. • Demonstrated experience and ability to work independently and as part of a team with internal and external partners at multiple levels within organizations and across communities.• Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate informal education programs for diverse audiences. • Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information.• Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks, deadlines, requirements, and priorities to complete work in a timely manner and within established deadlines.• Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.• Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation.     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience in community nutrition and health education programming.• Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community.• Familiarity with purchasing and preparing foods, utilizing business expense accounts and pragmatic use of resources. • Experience working with an advisory committee.• Experience working with agency staff at regional and state levels.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Program Assessment - 10%• Assist in developing program needs assessment within scope of the Plan of Work.• Assist with identifying local and regional program needs with supervisor, program committees, staff, Cornell faculty, agency partners, and other community constituents.• Assist in making recommendations for programmatic offerings, enhancements, and/or improvements based upon assessment. • Assist with maintaining direct linkage with Cornell University faculty and program for program assessment guidance.

     

    Program Development - 15%• Apply subject matter knowledge to develop nutrition education and programming to meet identified needs within the county, region, • Develop community partnerships that result in participant referrals to meet program goals.• Research, identify and select existing resources Create or adapt program materials to address participant needs to include education on topics on healthy meal preparation and connecting the individual with grocery budget resources. • Make programmatic changes based on program evaluation outcomes to meet the need of diverse program participants.

     

    Program Delivery - 40%• Deliver high quality educational programming and program activities in support of nutrition programming efforts as identified/needed to support the established plan of work.• Assist with ensuring program delivery is within scope of grant and Association plan of work.• Provide nutrition counseling and education to individuals on various nutrition topics, including healthy eating, disease prevention and management. • Represent CCE before the public, participants, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery. • Serve as subject matter resource and respond to questions about nutrition and community health as appropriate.• Assist in maintaining linkages with Cornell and grant funder program as part of program delivery.

     

    Program Evaluation - 5%• Implement program evaluation as designed.• Interact with program participants, Advisory Committee, and community agencies to gather informal program evaluation information.• Assist with analyzing and interpreting evaluation data and making recommendations for program improvement.• Communicate evaluation results and findings.• Make recommendations for improvement/changes to strengthen and improve programmatic offerings. • Assist with maintaining connection with Cornell University faculty and program units for program evaluation guidance.

     

    Administrative Direction - 10%• Assist with planning the delivery of established educational program goals. • Assist with making programmatic changes based on evaluation outcomes and to meet changing local priorities.• Assist with planning effective strategic external and internal communication efforts.• Assist Supervisor in the design of a system of ongoing involvement of an advisory committee and other stakeholders who represent and communicate the demographics of the community.• Assist Supervisor in planning for program expenses, communications, and strategic marketing.

     

    Administrative Management - 5%• Assist with ensuring volunteer direction and management procedures are followed according to established policies and procedures by providing guidance, leadership and resources for volunteers and volunteer leaders including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, evaluation, and management. • Assist is solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.• Identify activities and resources needed to carry out program priorities and goals in consultation and collaboration with supervisor, program committees, staff, Cornell faculty, agency partners, and other community constituents.• Assist Supervisor by performing administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of the program budget (i.e., track expenses, provide support for purchasing).• Effectively manage program budget allocations. Assist in identifying ways to reduce costs and maximize existing resources within the Association.• Assist with monitoring program financial status to ensure compliance with funding requirements, program budget, grant specifications, and adherence to Association strategies/Plan of Work.

     

    Administrative Coordination/Operation - 10%• Track participant progress, adjust plans as needed and document outcomes. • Assist with coordinating, compiling, and organizing existing program resources and program materials.• Assist Supervisor in coordinating program implementation activities and planning efforts.• Complete and submit program reports and financial documentation to meet funding agency requirements.• Assist with preparation and submitting grants/contracts for new or existing funding.• Maintain documentation of nutrition education sessions as required by grant and/or association requirements.• Complete all required trainings required to meet program, grant, and/or association requirements.• Leverage community partners to receive referrals, respond to referrals within the times defined, and document information and updates related to services rendered • Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts. • Submit accurate program related expense receipts as required.• Maintain records, complete reports, accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process.• Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.• Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.• Transport self and/or program materials/resources necessary for performing position responsibilities.

     

    Professional Improvement - 5%• In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.• Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and events as scheduled/required.

     

    Health and Safety - Applies to all duties and functions• Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.• Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.• Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

     

    Policy and Other Duties as Assigned - Applies to all duties and functions• Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. • Conduct all programming and activities in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, procedures, processes, and Skills for Success. • Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner at all times. • Perform all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.• Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
