Summary:
Under the general supervision of a nursing administrator, incumbents of this class coordinate, direct, implement and recommend systems, methods, and procedures for the delivery of nursing care. This involves collaboration with nursing and hospital administrative staff to ensure that standards of practice, departmental philosophy, and overall hospital objectives are accomplished. The Supervisor of Nursing for Patient Logistics is responsible for overseeing and managing patient flow and throughput throughout the healthcare network, ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate care while optimizing the use of resources across the network. This role combines clinical expertise, operational oversight, and strategic planning to ensure the efficient movement of patients across various departments, from admission through discharge, all while maintaining high standards of care and maximizing throughput. The role also includes responsibility for providing oversite for eSitter and Cardiac Monitoring Unit (CMU), to enhance patient care and improve operational efficiency. Responsibilities:
1-Patient Flow & Throughput Coordination:
+ Provide clinical oversight of capacity management coordinators, providing direction and clinical support to decision-making.
+ Oversee the coordination of patient admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure optimal utilization of network resources, including hospital beds, equipment, and staff, while maintaining high throughput levels.
+ Collaborate with clinical and administrative departments within the network to streamline patient movement and reduce delays, thus enhancing throughput and minimizing bottlenecks.
+ Work closely with emergency departments, surgical teams, and other healthcare providers across the network to prioritize patient placement and care delivery to ensure efficient patient flow.
+ Analyze throughput data to identify patterns, delays, and areas for improvement in patient movement processes.
+ Develop and implement patient flow policies and procedures to optimize patient care, increase throughput, and improve operational efficiency.
+ Foster a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and quality care across the network.
2- Telehealth
+ Oversee the integration and coordination of eSitter technology, to support continuous patient monitoring and enhance patient safety, especially for patients in need of constant observation or in remote locations, and maximize the utilization of the program.
+ Ensure the effective use of the Cardiac Monitoring Unit (CMU), ensuring that patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring are appropriately assigned and managed for optimal care and throughput.
+ Resource Management:
+ Monitor and analyze data on patient flow, throughput metrics, esitter utilization, and resource allocation to identify opportunities to reduce bottlenecks and improve overall efficiency.
+ Work with the medical director of clinical logistics to address capacity issues within the network, including working with leadership on surge planning, contingency strategies, and adjustments to optimize throughput during peak periods.
+ Collaboration & Communication:
+ Serve as the primary liaison between nursing leadership on the floor with Clinical Logistics to ensure effective communication and collaboration focused on improving throughput and telehealth integration.
+ Ensure that clinical staff across the network are informed of patient logistics priorities, throughput goals, and any changes in patient flow policies or procedures, including the implementation and optimization of telehealth services.
+ Coordinate with case management, social work, and discharge planning teams to ensure smooth transitions of care and efficient discharges to improve throughput.
+ Quality & Compliance:
+ Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experience, improving throughput, reducing wait times, and improving overall patient satisfaction.
+ Ensure that patient safety is maintained at all times during the logistics process and throughout the throughput cycle
License, Certification, and Registration: Possession of a valid license and current registration, issued by the New York State Education Department, as a Registered Nurse, Training and
Experience:
A Bachelor's degree* or Master's degree* in Nursing, and four years of nursing experience in a hospital or healthcare facility, two of which must have been at a leadership level.
