    Quality Assurance Manager (San Diego, CA)

     

    Malin Space Science Systems (MSSS) is a private technology company that designs, develops and operates space camera systems for government and commercial aerospace customers and provides services in spacecraft instrument operations and space science research. As a member of our multidisciplinary space imaging systems design and production team, the Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for planning, developing and implementing techniques, processes and procedures for controlling and maintaining the required level of quality for all goods and services supplied by MSSS. The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for establishing quality programs and procedures for all incoming material as well as outgoing products. The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for coordinating with Project Managers, Supply Chain Manager, Production Manager, Managing Engineer, suppliers, and customers to resolve quality issues and meet audit requirements. Essential Functions

     

    + Supports customer audits of MSSS Quality Management System and process implementation and resolves audit findings.

    + Receives auditor training every 3 years or when required.

    + Schedules and leads internal audits in accordance with ISO9001/AS9100 Quality Management System standards and MSSS procedures and policies.

    + Reviews, plans, and leads implementation of corrective actions of the quality management system procedures and policies.

    + Administers AS9100-mandated customer satisfaction surveys. Brings in external calibration authorities as needed, including for fume hood, flow bench, and cleanroom certifications.

    + Prepares annual quality reports for senior management.

    + Reviews customer requirements to support proposals and contract negotiations.

    + Reviews screening, qualification, and inspection data for received materials and assemblies; manages non-conformance system and works with vendors, Managing Engineer, and Supply Chain Manager to resolve non-conformances through the Material Review Board (MRB) process.

    + Evaluates prospective vendors, establishes vendor quality requirements, and performs site visits and quality audits at vendor facilities; maintains approved supplier list.

    + Oversees limited shelf-life materials control program.

    + Controls processes for component and material traceability to the lot code, date code, and serial number level using per-assembly as-built lists.

    + Oversees root cause investigation and corrective action for all Problem/Failure Reports (PFRs).

    + Oversees document control processes. Manages quality control documents, quality standards, and inspection and test methods.

    + Reviews and approves Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

    + Coordinates with Plant Maintenance to ensure that labs are properly cleaned and facility equipment is maintained/serviced/calibrated, as needed.

    + Provides direct supervision to Quality Assurance Inspectors, Receiving Quality Inspectors, and Document Control Specialist.

    + Works with HR to effectively recruit for and manage quality team staffing needs, address employee relations issues, conduct annual performance evaluations and communicate company policies. Communicates job expectations and responsibilities to team, while supervising, managing and overseeing employee workload.

    + Receives Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) trainer certification, performs annual ESD audits, and conducts annual ESD training.

    + Implements and maintains process controls (e.g. solder analysis).

    + Maintains externally accredited ISO 17025 equipment calibration program.

    + Maintains Foreign Object Elimination (FOE) program and conducts annual training.

    + Tracks all trainings for ESD, FOE, critical hardware handling, and workmanship certifications.

    + Participates in GIDEP program and ensures all applicable GIDEP alerts are reviewed and dispositioned by Engineering.

    + Performs final review of build documentation and compiles End Item Data Packages (EIDPs) per customer requirements.

    + Coordinates customer source inspections and performs pre-ship inspections of flight hardware.

    + Travels to customers and/or vendors as required.

    Non-Essential Functions

    + Performs other duties as required or requested which may become essential to this position.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering field or comparable technical experience.

    + 3+ years experience working with AS/ISO family of standards especially AS9100.

    + Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic.

    + Occasional travel to customers and/or vendors may be required.

    Preferred Skills

    + 3+ years experience overseeing quality assurance of mission critical activities.

    + ASQ Quality certifications.

     

    Physical Requirements Must be able to remain in a stationary position operating a computer for periods of time, while handling multiple priorities simultaneously . Must be able to communicate clearly with a variety of people on a daily basis. Occasionally moves about the office to access office machinery, lab spaces, and machine shop. Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. as needed. Ability to work and move around in a cleanroom environment, wearing required outer garments including smock/coveralls, shoe covers, mask, hood and gloves. Possess mental acuity at a level which will facilitate execution of complex technical/engineering instructions. Ability to handle high stress levels in connection with multiple conflicting priorities and deadlines. High tolerance for ambiguity and shifting expectations. Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload. Ability to travel to customers and/or vendors locations.
