    Job Summary and Essential Job Duties:

    The Process Engineer position is responsible for developing and improving manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. This hands-on role works on manufacturing and measuring precision optics and contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

    Through On the Job Training (OJT) and utilization of prior experience, the Process Engineer will:

    + Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting development projects; apply knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; confer with equipment vendors; solicit observations from operators;

    + Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; research, design, modify, and test manufacturing methods and equipment;

    + Review customer drawings and requirements for manufacturability and collaborate with customer and internal resources to ensure desired performance can be achieved;

    + Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; test finished-product and process capabilities; establish standards; confirm manufacturing processes;

    + Complete design and development projects by training and guiding technicians;

    + Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; review professional publications; establish personal networks; participate in professional societies;

    + Perform other duties as outlined by the Engineering Manager.

     

    Advancement through the Process Engineer ranks is attained via increasing levels of education, experience, industrial skills, math skills, computing skills, responsibility and leadership potential and effectiveness.

    Education Requirements:

    + B.S. Degree in Engineering or Applied Science preferred.

    Minimum Requirements:

    + Five (5) years optics manufacturing and testing experience or ten (10) years industrial manufacturing experience desired

    + Prior experience in the production of precision optics desired

    + Prior experience with metrology systems including interferometers, CMMs, profilometers and autocollimators desired

    + Experience with precision machining and GD&T desired

    + Knowledge of optical materials and/or systems desired

    + Ability to analyze data to track process performance, identify trends and drive process improvements based on data

    + Able to work effectively as part of a team

    + Possess good communication skills, both oral and written

    + Excellent interpersonal skills

    + Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects

    Work Requirements:

    Physical Demands:

    + While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.

    + The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.

    + Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    + Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

    Work Environment:

    + This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud frequencies.

    + May involve the use of oils and solvents.

    + Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.

    + May require area specific safety training

    + The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes

    + May be assigned to various production areas as needs require.
