    Description

    Responsible for the Polaris (automated) circulation system (charging, reserving, and discharging materials). Oversee receipt of library charges including fines, etc. Register library users. Use electronic mail. Maintain the serials online module on Polaris. Use the campus wide network and Assist with ILL request. Help patrons with using all various communication mediums. Assign tasks to student workers.

     

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Issue and receive library materials, including books, videos, compact discs, etc.

    + Compile records of new magazines, newspapers; put new editions on display and shelve back issues.

    + Monitor subscription orders, claims, and missing or lost periodicals. Ensure magazines have been correctly logged in.

    + Assist with ILL request.

    + Help schedule student assistants.

    + Sort and shelve materials, inspect returned materials for damage.

    + Register patrons; record name and/or address changes as required.

    + Provide answers to informational queries to patrons; help Patrons with electronic resources, refer reference questions to information specialists.

    + Maintain library e-mail. Answer any electronic inquiries and other correspondences. Issue library barcodes online for students and staff.

    + Provide assistance to instructors on finding materials, books, videos, or reserve items for class.

    + Maintain ink/cartridges and paper supply on copier and computer equipment and instruct patrons on use of library equipment and campus wide network as needed.

    + Empty book drops and process returned materials.

    + Process books received from the county transit delivery. Place materials on hold and notify patrons by telephone or via e-mail when materials are available.

    + Responsible for FAST ADDING reserve material to the reserve bookroom. Also responsible for any deletions to the reserve bookroom and sending material up to cataloguing to be dispersed accordingly.

    + Assist in setting up library displays. Make signs as needed for special projects and events.

    + Maintain general appearance of Library. Perform sweeps as required each hour and record head count and patron counts.

    + Direct student workers to complete library tasks each day such as shelving, verifying, pull lists, shelf reading and other tasks as assigned.

    + Follow all closing procedures including turning electrical items off, locking doors and cabinets at the end of shift.

    + Complete work orders for any maintenance problems or equipment needed for special events. Notify maintenance for any changes needed in the temperature of the library. Contact OIT for any problems with the computers.

    + Compile and enter data into Excel/google sheets for various use tallies.

    + Perform other related duties as assigned.

    The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education Required:

    High School or equivalent Diploma

    Experience Required:

    One (1) year of library experience or applicable experience.

    Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements:

    Excellent customer service skills and problem-solving capabilities. PC skills, including MS Office applications or google, internet, email, search engine proficiencies. Telephone and written communication competency.

     

    Additional Information

     

    Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
