    Job Summary

    Performs supervisory responsibilities for security operations for the University Campus and Health Sciences Center by managing daily activities. Directs personnel involved in establishing, promoting and maintaining security and property protection.

     

    Will be a safety and security subject matter expert for their region who provides security solutions, alternatives, and recommendations across the full spectrum of the service line, to include (but not limited to) threat management/preventing workplace violence, access control, technology integration, risk-based staffing, training, contract management, policy-development, investigation & loss prevention, incident reporting/critical notifications, analysis, program measurement, continuous improvement, crime prevention, risk assessment & mitigation, law enforcement liaison, special event support, leader development, and governance.

     

    Administers and manages programs and services to provide and maintain safe and secure properties, buildings and equipment, in accordance with local, state and federal regulations, by performing the following duties personally or through delegation to supervisors, officers, and support staff. Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and DNV guidelines.

    Responsibilities

    * Effectively integrate UHealth security with organizational partners in Risk, Safety, Compliance, Privacy, Human Resources, Information Technology, Nursing, Facilities, and other critical functional areas, to include membership in appropriate committees, workgroups, huddles, and participation in recurring meetings and information exchanges.

    * Develops department goals in alignment with organizational dashboards.

    * Acts as liaison to regulatory bodies including federal, state and local authorities having jurisdiction and related agencies.

    * Directs safety/security related activities and functions affecting other department’s services as assigned including but not limited to Safety, Disaster Preparedness, Risk Management, Facilities Management and Medical Services.

    * Ensures compliance with federal, state, DNV , and local regulations

    * Develops, plans, implements, and manages security operations, projects and processes that improve and maintain effective security operations which are aimed at providing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors of the UHealth network. Develops and administers policies and procedures to accomplish both department-specific and organizational initiatives.

    * Partners effectively with other departments and key stakeholders to ensure effective project management, efficient project completion and successful end goal validation. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in multi-disciplinary quality initiatives.

    * Acts as liaison to community leaders and local authorities such as law enforcement, fire, and EMS .

    * Able to obtain certification in Non-violent Crisis Intervention via Crisis Prevention Institute.

    * Able to obtain certification in Healthcare Defensive Tactics System via Personal Safety Training Institute.

    * Able to obtain Supervisor level certification from IAHSS .

    Minimum Qualifications

    * High school diploma, GED or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

    * Eight years’ related experience

    * Ability to successfully pass a background check

    * Demonstrated communications skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service

    * A valid Utah Driver’s License to be obtained within 6 months of hire.

    * A proficient knowledge and understanding of current electronic security equipment (proprietary alarms, CCTV systems, computers, etc.);

     

    Preferences

    Preferences:

    + Extensive knowledge of compliance with healthcare security standards, policy development and implementation, and human resource matters.

    + Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures at an organizational level that align with organizational mission and values.

    + Ten or more years’ experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, or public safety leadership.

    + Familiarity with relevant local, state, and federal laws.

    + Familiarity with healthcare security regulations, policy, best practices, and accreditation standards.

    + Familiarity with security technology.

    + Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all levels of an organization.

    + Demonstrated ability to work with community members and other outside stakeholders.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    + A demonstrated commitment to ethical behavior and maintaining the highest standards of integrity.

    + Demonstrated ability to properly receive and disseminate sensitive, confidential, and protected information.

     

    Serves as part of the department of public safety management team
