Job Summary
Directs or assists with development activities related to centrally managed donor relationships, complex strategies, and cross-campus initiatives. This role supports the University’s principal and corporate philanthropy efforts through proposal development, organizational partnership coordination, and strategic project execution. While not managing a traditional individual gift portfolio, the Development Officer oversees a curated set of organizational funders—such as bank trusts, CRA institutions, and corporations—that require centralized coordination and reporting. The Development Officer works closely with senior development staff and campus partners to coordinate donor-facing content, align institutional messaging, and support One U giving strategies.
This position is part of the Principal Gifts and Corporate Philanthropy team, which focuses on cultivating and securing transformational gifts to advance the University’s highest priorities. The team works closely with the President, senior leaders, and key academic and administrative partners to manage top institutional donors and cross-campus strategies. As a collaborative contributor, the Development Officer plays a vital role in supporting the team’s ability to deliver personalized engagement, strategic proposals, and exceptional donor experiences.
Responsibilities
Proposal Management
+ Coordinate the submission process for centrally managed and multi-unit proposals, liaising with campus and Advancement stakeholders.
+ Occasionally draft, edit, and produce customized philanthropic proposals, donor reports, briefing materials, and correspondence, particularly for special projects or organizational funders.
+ Refer larger or campaign-level proposals to Advancement Communications while serving as lead coordinator.
+ Track and maintain proposal documentation, deadlines, and deliverables across units.
Partnerships
+ Manage a small portfolio of organizational funders (e.g., bank trusts, CRA partners, corporations) that require central coordination.
+ Cultivates and engages donors and prospective donors affiliated with centrally coordinated processes (mainly bank trusts, CRA , and corporate donors) -maybe this is added to show that there is some donor engagement.
+ Coordinate proposal submissions, reporting, and stewardship in partnership with campus fundraisers and central Advancement.
+ Collaborate with campus-based fundraisers to ensure centralized donors are stewarded and solicited in a coordinated, donor-centric way.
+ Ensure consistent donor communication and alignment with university priorities.
+ Support stewardship efforts by coordinating recognition, reporting deliverables, and tracking impact for organizational funders and multi-unit donors.
+ Partner with the Donor Relations team to align recognition, gift acknowledgment, and impact communications for assigned funders.
+ Maintain data integrity within donor records and contribute insights to inform coordinated donor strategy and planning. (e.g., bank trusts, CRA partners, corporations) that require central coordination but do not require face-to-face cultivation.
+ Coordinate proposal submissions, reporting, and stewardship in partnership with campus fundraisers and central Advancement.
+ Ensure consistent donor communication and alignment with university priorities.
+ Maintain accurate and timely records in the university CRM .
+ May represent the university or department at community events and donor meetings, occasionally joining senior development staff or university leadership.
Projects & Team Support
+ Support projects and initiatives led by the Principal Gifts and Corporate Philanthropy team, including curated donor experiences, engagement strategies, and recognition events.
+ Prepares reports, financial statements, and records on program status and progress for donors.
+ Assist with the preparation of strategic briefings and meeting materials for senior leaders.
+ Provide administrative and logistical support for internal project management and cross-functional coordination.
+ Participate in trainings, cross-team meetings, and professional development activities to support growth in development strategy and donor engagement.
+ Serve as a collaborative contributor to the Principal Gifts support team and Corporate Philanthropy team, including curated donor experiences, engagement strategies, and recognition events.
+ Coordinate and develop agendas for strategic partnership meetings with internal constitutes such as prospect research, donor relations, student success initiatives, and others.
Problem Solving
The incumbent has the authority to work independently on proposals and partner-related projects after consultation with the Director or Senior Director and within the guidelines of University Advancement and donor strategy. The incumbent may be asked to provide guidance on timelines, deadlines, and proposal quality as it relates to institution-wide giving strategies.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); three years of fundraising experience which includes direct solicitation of contributions, volunteer leadership support, written and verbal presentations, and strategy and market development are required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
Preferences
Understanding of university advancement structures and multi-unit proposal processes. Experience in grant or proposal writing and a background working with development communications or philanthropic is preferred. Demonstrated project coordination or negotiating skills are also preferred.
