    Job Summary

    The Learning Experience Designer (LED) at the U-M Center for Innovation (UMCI) will help design and optimize learning experiences for a diverse set of learners across master's degree programs and workforce development programs. You will focus on developing engaging, accessible, and competency-driven learning experiences that align with industry needs, academic excellence, and workforce readiness. Reporting to the Director of Academic Content Strategy, you will work with UMCI program managers, U-M faculty, industry partners, and community organizations to design inclusive, real-world learning experiences. With a focus on continuous improvement, you will use program evaluation and learner feedback to develop and refine impactful learning solutions

     

    guided by data and results.

     

    You will have a hybrid work schedule with a blend of remote and onsite responsibilities.

    Responsibilities*

    + Collaborate with UMCI program managers, curriculum developers, U-M faculty, and external partners including subject matter experts, industry leaders, nonprofits, and community organizations to co-design innovative and inclusive learning experiences in both the higher ed master's degree and non-degree workforce development spaces.

    + Apply learning science and instructional design principles and best practices to create accessible, engaging, and outcomes-driven courses across hybrid and in-person formats aligned to academic expectations, workforce competencies, and industry standards.

    + Provide guidance and training on effective pedagogical strategies and instructional technologies to faculty and other facilitators.

    + Support curriculum mapping, assessment design, and the development of clear learning outcomes across both credit and non-credit programs to ensure career readiness, professional relevance, and where relevant, stackability.

    + Design and implement tools and frameworks to evaluate learner engagement, instructional quality, and program impact, using surveys, focus groups, analytics, and continuous improvement strategies.

    + Stay informed on trends and emerging practices in instructional design, educational technology, adult learning, and workforce development

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree or higher in instructional design, learning sciences, education, or a related field.

    + 3+ years of experience designing and developing courses in higher education and/or workforce training.

    + Expertise in learning design, competency-based education, and adult learning theories, particularly for hybrid and in-person learning experiences.

    + Experience working with a wide range of subject matter experts to create effective learning solutions.

    + Proficiency in learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and instructional design tools.

    + Knowledge of micro-credentialing, digital badges, and alternative credentialing models.

    + Familiarity with AI-driven learning tools, AR/VR, or other emerging education technologies.

    + Experience using data analytics to assess and improve learning experiences
