Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._

    Responsibilities:

    General Purpose:

    Performs quality assurance and quality control acceptance tests on both medical and research radiological equipment and general radiological devices in accordance to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and NY State Department of Health guidelines. Reports violations. Evaluates results, prepares reports, and applies knowledge in these areas to make recommendations. Performs calibrations and minor maintenance on hand-held radiation monitoring instrumentation. Assists in monitoring use of other radioactive materials throughout the University.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Performs advanced NY State Industrial Code Rule 16 audits, surveys, and inspections of radiological devices, such as Fluoroscopy, CT, Portable, and Dental, for support of annual and semi annual QA/QC performance checks.

    + Evaluates results, prepares reports, and applies knowledge of expected equipment responses compared to observed/measured. Performs follow-up on corrective actions following radiological and/or nuclear evaluations. Provides recommendations to various groups, including Clinical Engineering, Nuclear Medicine and Radiology, for instrument improvement, shielding, and dosimetry.

    + Evaluates performance of radioactive materials licensed laboratories to established University operational standards. Delivers approved radioisotopes to licensed Principal Investigators. Reports violations, recommends actions where warranted and maintains records of surveys. Ensures proper radiological protection is maintained, as well as appropriate behavior in radiological areas.

    + Performs calibrations on hand-held radiation monitoring instrumentation and completes minor maintenance on these instruments. When necessary, packages and ships equipment to a certified vender when major maintenance is required. Performs receipt inspections and operational checks when outside organizations provide maintenance on RSU equipment.

    + Performs data entry requirements for the handling of radioisotopes necessary for tracking the amounts of radioactivity delivered to and used by the institution for eventual replacement, use, disposal and/or shipment.

    + Performs room surveys for the detection of radioactive contamination using provided instrumentation.

     

    Other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

    + Associates degree in safety technology, environmental management or related discipline and five years of specialist work experience required.

    + Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program preferred.

    + Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    + Familiarity with radiological devices (Fluoroscopy, CT, Portable and Dental) to conduct QA/QC performance checks required.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

    + NYS Radiologic Technologist License preferred.

    + AART American Registry of Radiologic Technologists license preferred.
