Job Summary:
With reporting responsibilities to the VP of Rail Operations, this position is directly responsible for the management of the company Rail Terminal operations throughout the U.S., including the day-to-day operations and general direction of all staff assigned to support rail terminal operations. This role will have dual dotted line reporting to the Trucking and Warehousing VPs. Must provide positive leadership for company management team and will push the SHEQ objectives through the department. Direct daily management to include: all rail terminal activities, all delivery scheduling, maintaining inventories, and scheduling and coordinating maintenance when needed. Will also entail department management employee development, counseling, discipline, training, record keeping and communication of issues with Executive Team. This position is responsible for helping company achieve financial goals and objectives and increase operating performance. Prepares operating plans/budgets, creates business plans, and solves internal issues as they arise. The AVP of Rail Terminal Operations will be supported by Rail Terminal Managers and Supervisors for monitoring and managing all departmental operations.
Essential Functions/Duties:
Executive responsibilities:
+ Communicate company strategy to executive & management team.
+ Work with Sales Team to generate revenue plans.
+ Assist Sales in preparing Sales quote analysis.
+ Proactively engage Sales in cost deviations and analysis.
+ Assist Sales in understanding divisional cost structure and pricing structure.
+ Build customer confidence and loyalty by ensuring customers’ needs are met and that services rendered are done with highest level of customer service available in the industry.
+ Identify ways to maximize revenue.
+ Work with executive team to prepare budgets.
+ Analyze financial reports.
+ Measure and report monthly MOP results to Executive Team and Trucking Management staff.
+ Prepare and report Quarterly Scorecards to Executive Team and Management Staff.
+ Report and share information with the executive team to ensure they are kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and important factors influencing it.
+ Identify and lead new business opportunities.
+ Generate productive relationships and partnerships for the benefit of the organization.
+ Work with industry leaders, executive directors, government officials, and senior staff/board members.
+ Participate in and nurture broad networks of alliances with others to exchanges knowledge and information about learning and change in support of change initiatives
+ Communicate all safety issues and incidents to the Executive Team.
+ Prepare & Report Quarterly Safety Report to Executive Team.
+ Review and communicate all Major Quality events (>$2,000) to internal Executive Team.
+ Communicate and report Quality events to Customers, after vetting from Executive Team.
Divisional Responsibilities:
+ Preside over the Rail Terminal operations for the company.
+ Ensure employee development and training is meeting company standards and goals.
+ Ensure Rail Safety is the unwavering #1 priority at all sites we operate.
+ Ensure we are adhering to our Environmental Goal of Zero pellets to loss.
+ Responsible for all Rail Terminals to include profitability by site.
+ Custodian of all Rail Contracts, including Rail Leases and Customer Agreements.
+ Oversee all Rail Invoicing to include all reimbursement of Constructive Placements and Rail Demurrage fees.
+ Communicate Constructive Placement fees internally with executive team and negotiate settlement of all CP charges with the railroad to minimize expenses for the company.
+ Advance departmental systems through technology improvements.
+ Work with CEO to support strategic Rail initiatives and new business development.
+ Work with Sales and Business Development to identify new rail terminal markets and opportunities.
+ Work with Sales to improve low performing sites.
+ Ensure sites are adhering to MOP budgets and reporting on deviations from plan greater than 5% of target.
+ Ensure Cost Control Measures are in place for all.
+ Ensure company policies and procedures are followed by each department.
+ Attract, retain and motivate staff.
+ Sets goals, monitors work, and evaluates results to ensure that departmental and organizational objectives and operating requirements are met and are in line with the needs and mission of the organization.
+ Communicate & drive divisional Safety performance.
+ Ensure Quarterly Safety Reviews and Audits are being done for all Terminal Sites.
+ Ensure divisional compliance is met to all regulatory Safety standards.
+ Ensure divisional compliance for with company safety initiatives, programs and procedures.
+ Communicate & drive divisional Quality performance
+ Ensure Quarterly Quality Reviews and Audits are being done for all Trucking Sites.
+ Ensure divisional Quality Compliance to Company and Customer standards are met
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
+ Preferred candidate will have a 4-year college business degree or work experience equivalent.
+ Must possess 5-10 years previous Management experience in Rail Transportation industry.
+ Must have understanding of ERP systems, warehouse management systems, transportation management software and customer interface systems.

+ Must possess vision abilities to include close visual confirmation of finely printed documents, have distance vision to safely and correctly identify objects and or markings. Must have peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus on subjects or objects at any safe working distance.

+ Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact
+ Must have the ability to think independently and make decisions that are in the company’s best interest.
+ Must be highly proficient in a Windows environment, especially using and building Excel spreadsheets for business analysis.
+ Must have dynamic interpersonal, communications and organizational skills.
+ Strong analytical abilities for business and budgetary planning, forecasting, inventory management, product scheduling, and product balancing.
+ Must be multi-task oriented with the ability to handle many activities simultaneously.
+ Must be able to work long hours, weekends and available for travel on the company’s behalf.
Additional Job Details:
Supervisory Responsibility:
+ Role works closely with Executive Team members, Safety Manager, Quality Manager, Customer Success Representatives (CSR’s), Warehousing and Bulk Trucking department leadership and Sales department. Must oversee all facility and operations to meet KPI targets and goals.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers/scanners. Also expected to be able to perform essential rail functions in a safety sensitive and production environment in and around a warehouse and railyard.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Routine days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., but may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays, as required.
Travel:
25%-50% Travel is expected for this position.

Compensation
$100,000 - $125,000 annually, based on experience.
