    Description:

    Independently respond, evaluate and repair reported and discovered maintenance problems in Trinity Health buildings. This position provides a "first look" for issues related to many trade groups and departments, for example: Clinical Engineering. Notifies the proper trade group, vendor, or leader of required repairs that they are unable to perform.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Makes repairs such as changing light bulbs, ballasts, light switches, and receptacle outlets. Follows work standards set in NFPA 70E "Electrical Safety in the Workplace". Safely works on electrical devices/items without power applied to the circuit (exception: parts operating at 50-volts or less). Knowledgeable on correctly applying electrical lock out devices. Can identify unsafe electrical situations and either correct or report it immediately.

    + Performs mechanical tasks such as adjusting thermostats, changing unit filters, and analyzing mechanical malfunctions. Operates special air pressurization rooms. Cleans air vents and the like. Safely works on items with moving parts, making sure that the energy source is blocked off.

    + Has good knowledge and performs basic repairs on pneumatic tube transport system, and automated guided vehicles (AGV). Contacts Clinical Engineering when repairs are beyond their skill level or when the repair time exceeds 30-minutes. Follows all safety precautions when working on these systems including but not limited to: electrical shut offs (lockout tagout), blocking energy sources, eye protection and hearing protection.

    + Makes plumbing repairs that include leaking faucets, shower heads, obstructed sinks, traps and toilets. Responds to reported leaks, determines source and contacts the required trade group; plumber for example. Replaces urinal cartridges. Knows how to select and wear the correct personal protection equipment (PPE); gloves, apron and splash-proof goggles for example.

    + Has very good understanding of the fire alarm and fire suppression systems. Operates components of the system. Is knowledgeable of all key locations and shuts off in an emergency.

    + Assembles, installs and repairs office and patient room furniture, modular units and the like.

    + Performs carpentry work such as installing door locksets, door self-closers, shelving, wall-mounted items and associated tasks. Repairs the same.

    + Repairs and/or replaces patient use equipment that includes nurse call system components, wheelchairs, over-bed tables, patient beds, pillow speakers, televisions, clocks and initial operation test on newly purchased equipment.

    + Performs miscellaneous building repair including, but not limited to, ceiling tiles, patching walls, painting, flooring, and base molding.

    + Performs basic repairs and troubleshooting of doors, door access systems, and automatic doors.

    + Does the "first-look" for all system issues needing immediate attention. Shall notify the proper trade group, vendor, or leader of required repairs that they are unable to perform.

    + Inputs work activities using the Engineering data system (AIMS). At least 7-hours of an 8-hour day shall be documented and must accurately depict the work performed.

    + Performs snow removal, salting and all other grounds duties when required.

    + Changes hospital tanks of nitrogen, nitrous oxide, oxygen and the like.

    + Performs scheduled preventive maintenance, records results on the forms provided and turns them in to management by the due date.

    + Works in conjunction with outside contractors on equipment and building system modifications.

    + As needed, turns in requests for parts to be ordered. This request shall include the part numbers and purchasing source.

    + Is available to perform duties at any of the SJMH buildings and locations.

    OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    _Performs other duties as assigned._

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

    + Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Two years related experience or combination of one-year experience plus one year related vocational training. Maintains valid DMV driver's license.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    + Strong working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, hvac, carpentry, painting and other building systems.

    + Strong computer skills to operate pneumatic tube system, AGV system, fire alarm system, and for corresponding on e-mail and time recording on AIMS.

    + Other computer skills necessary to provide "first look" on systems for Clinical Engineering. Ability to concentrate on detail for up to 70% of the time when repairs equipment.

    + Analytical skills necessary to troubleshoot system malfunctions.

    + Interpersonal skills necessary to determine equipment problems from user-personnel descriptions. Read and understand blueprints related to job duties.

    + Understands and uses personal protection equipment as needed on each task.

    + Ability to understand and follow all policies and procedures.
