Overview
Bowhead is hiring a Machinst to support the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) on Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD.
Responsibilities
+ Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed.
+ Fabricate and/or modify many unique and precision items in support of the Army Research Laboratory programs.
+ Selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents. Receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.
+ Performs technician work of broad scope and complexity requiring the ability to interpret, select, adapt, and apply many guidelines, precedents and engineering principles and practices which relate to the area of specialization. Each assignment differs considerably from previous work and typically involves ingenuity and creative thinking to devise new ways of accomplishing objectives and in adapting existing equipment or techniques to solve the problems at hand.
+ Work requires practical knowledge of scientific and engineering principles, design characteristics, maintenance requirements, troubleshooting techniques, laboratory processes, and the peculiarities of various equipment and devices used.
+ Applies substantial judgment, initiative, skill and experience in selecting, installing and using complex instruments or devices; in modifying and adapting such instruments to obtain desired results; and in observing and noting significant trends in data.
+ Shall have the technical competence to work efficiently and hold very close tolerances (+/- .005 ") as a minimum for the lowest level requirement, and (+/- .0001") for higher level fabrications.
+ Meets with supervisor, team leader or customers to plan scope of the project, discuss objectives, plan methods for accomplishing objectives, identify potential problem areas and recommend alternatives to resolve conflicting requirements.
+ Identifies equipment and material needs, prepares cost estimates if required, and ensures data is within expected parameters.
+ Works independently, often without the availability of immediate supervisory guidance.
+ Keeps the supervisor advised of progress, but receives little review during progress of typical assignment.
+ Performs otherduties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ Demonstrate the ability to proficiently generate machine codes from the sketches/drawings to operate the Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) mill and lathe to manufacture parts.
+ Proficiency in Manual Machining prototype work.
+ Able to do minor welding, tig, and stick oxyacetylene.
+ Capable of shop related math skills.
+ Experience with CNC Mills and Lathes, with use of G-Code.
+ Work from verbal and written customer instructions to complete assignments.
+ Proficiency in the use of MasterCAM Software.
+ Experience with CAM software and programming CNC machines.
+ Proficient in use of YCM CNC milling machine with minimal to no assistance
+ Gathers and maintains specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.
This individual is authorized the use of Government tooling and equipment, both manual and CNC (i.e., hand tools, band saws, milling machines, lathes, machining centers, drill presses, brakes, punches, grinders, etc.) on-site at Government facility for required support.
Physical Demands:
+ Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
+ Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time.
+ Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
