Description
We are looking for an experienced Assistant Buyer to join our team on a contract basis in Cromwell, CT. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in purchasing and materials management who thrives in a dynamic environment. The role will involve working closely with vendors, production teams, and engineering departments to ensure smooth operations and cost-effective procurement strategies.
Responsibilities:
• Analyze business needs to determine and order raw materials based on required timelines and quantities.
• Monitor and modify raw material schedules in response to production changes and demand fluctuations.
• Keep planning and production teams informed about schedule adjustments promptly and clearly.
• Collaborate with the purchasing and engineering teams to source and obtain quotes for new materials.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, negotiating pricing, lead times, and quality standards.
• Evaluate demand triggers from MRP/ERP systems, manual inputs, and planner communication to ensure procurement aligns with production needs.
• Coordinate with materials and production teams to guarantee sufficient inventory for short- and long-term schedules.
• Contribute to cost-saving initiatives and projects across the business unit.
• Take ownership of materials-related projects, driving lean initiatives and actively participating in process improvement efforts.
• Support the implementation of strategies to optimize procurement and materials handling processes.
Requirements • Proven experience in purchasing, sourcing, and materials management.
• Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with vendors, production teams, and internal stakeholders.
• Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and their application in procurement processes.
• Ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into actionable purchasing plans.
• Skilled in negotiating pricing, lead times, and quality standards with vendors.
• Knowledge of production schedules and materials handling to ensure seamless operations.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage complex schedules and inventory demands.
