    The Manager of the Faculty Council and Staff Council provides support to each of these councils at Boston University and ensures the continued success of each council. The Manager provides high level expert professional knowledge to the councils and their committees and completes assignments and projects that are of substantial complexity and impact the faculty and staff of the university. The Manager plays an essential role in the day-to-day functioning of the Faculty Council and Staff Council units.

     

    Faculty Council: The Faculty Council is the representative body of the Faculty Assembly at Boston University. The Faculty Council members are members of the Faculty Assembly who are elected to represent their individual school or college, either as a representative or as an alternate. Each school or college is responsible for holding its own election for representatives and alternates. The Faculty Council reviews new proposals for academic programs, evaluates and provides feedback to the Administration on new initiatives and policy changes, and forms its own initiatives or projects based on recommendations made by individual council members, or by the Faculty Council committees. In addition, the Faculty Council fosters an open, continuous dialogue with the University by inviting senior members of the Administration to attend Faculty Council meetings and present new policies or projects to the full council for comment.

     

    Staff Council: The Staff Council is the representative body of the Staff Assembly at Boston University. Members are staff who are elected to represent their individual units either as a representative or as an alternate. The mission of the Staff Council is to foster direct and regular communication between University staff and University leadership. This group helps to identify and address areas of opportunity impacting the University's workplace culture. The council serves as a voice to University leadership and provides feedback on various initiatives related to the staff experience.

     

    General Description: The Manager of the Faculty Council and Staff Council is the sole support for the Faculty Council Chair and Staff Council Chair. The Manager performs a number of essential functions for the Faculty Council, the Faculty Assembly, Staff Council, and the Staff Assembly. These include identifying high priority issues impacting multiple schools/colleges, and departments that are necessary for guiding the councils leadership in establishing short-term and long-term goals; providing guidance in developing strategies for achieving the goals; performing research to assist leadership, committee chairs; ensuring that both groups by-laws are consistent with current University policies and procedures; acting as liaison with all University offices; working with the leadership, the Executive Committee, the President's and Provosts offices to plan and manage Faculty Assembly, Staff Assembly, Faculty Council, Staff Council and Executive Committee meetings, running online elections for university-wide elections and facilitating school-wide elections, and managing all social activities and budget planning.
