Job Summary
Assigns the appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes to medical records according to ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding guidelines.
Essential Functions
Assigns the appropriate diagnostic and procedures codes for ambulatory surgery cases using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4
Assists in maintaining hospital standard of two days or less from date of service or discharge to billing date, by submitting codes to billing as soon as adequate documentation is available.
Assists physicians with questions on assignment of principal diagnosis and procedure codes
Maintains current knowledge of coding principles for accuracy and efficiency
Answers questions from billing office in regards to out-standing accounts
If working remotely, follows policies and procedures from Information Systems as required.
Job Requirements
Minimum Educationx High school diploma or equivalent Required or 2 to 3 years previous relevant experience.
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required Licenses[West Virginia, United States] Other
RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC preferred.
Minimum Work Experience2-3 years previous experience in coding or graduate of a Medical Record technician program. Background in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required.
