    Vocational Counselor

     

    II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPSONSIBILITIES

    1. Developing Site Based Prevocational Staff Action Plans including ISP Programs for assigned caseload.

    2. Attending annual, semi-annually, and other meetings as needed, including special projects and in-services for individuals on assigned caseloads as part of the Inter-disciplinary Team process.

    3. Follow-up on approved recommendations for the individuals on caseload.

    4. Provide counseling and daily guidance/assistance to individuals on assigned caseload as needed.

    5. Communicate with and train production staff on individual's Site Based Prevocational Staff Action Plan, which include assisting with plan implementation and gathering necessary performance feedback.

    6. Provide training to individuals per Staff Action Plan/ISP Programs; document training/response in Therap (data collection).

    7. Complete monthly review of training data in Therap.

    8. Provide transportation for individuals daily (route assigned).

    9. Provide monitoring of lunchroom during meal and non-mealtimes as assigned.

    10. Complete Annual Prevocational Services Assessment for each individual on caseload.

    11. Prepare for and participate in monthly Behavioral Consult (BIC) meetings as applicable.

    12. Maintain service records as required by governing regulations.

    13. Monitor the Individualized Plan of Protection (IPOP) documents, Meal Time Plans (MTP), and any other safety protocols for the individuals on caseload.

    14. Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.

    15. Regulate and enforce all agency rules and policies.

    16. Adhere to The Arc Otsego's philosophies, mission, and core values.

    17. Assure security of all confidential files and information on customers and consumers / trainees.

    18. Assure that safety devices are in good working order and that safety procedures are properly enforced.

    19. Maintain good communication with other staff, including, but not limited to, DSPs and production supervisors.

    20. Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment as applicable.

    21. Perform all other duties as assigned.

    22. This position requires at least a three-week (21 workday) notice for voluntary resignation of employment.

    III. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    The Vocational Counselor position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

     

    IV. QUALIFICATIONS

     

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in psychology, sociology, education, human services, or related field. One year of experience in programs serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working in vocational/industrial settings.

    REASONING SKILLS

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must possess excellent verbal and analytical skills. Must be a team player.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar or line graphs.

    COMPUTER SKILLS

    Must be knowledgeable about use of e-mail and basic software systems to effectively communicate and complete clerical needs functions.

    CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Must have a valid New York State driver's license. Must successfully complete all agency required training.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

     

    1. Physically able to bend/stoop, squat, push/pull, reach above/below shoulder level frequently.

    2. Must be able to independently lift and/or transfer, push or pull up to 50 lbs. No lifting restrictions.

    3. Ability to physically intervene using Agency-endorsed behavior interventions.

    4. Must have adequate vision, speaking and hearing ability, with or without correction, to be constantly aware of, detect, and able to respond to each person's needs when not in the immediate vicinity.

    5. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

    6. Sit and use hands to finger, handle, feel objects and tools.

    7. Ability to ambulate; reach with hands and arms.

    8. Ability to operate computer and software programs.

    VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT

     

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

     

    1. Works with household cleaning solutions.

    2. Moderate noise: 75%-90% of work is performed indoors, 10-25% outdoors.

    3. Works with wheelchairs, electric/hydraulic/manual lift/ramp equipment, lifts and hook-ups, mechanical/electrical beds, cleaning equipment, augmentative communication devices, and office equipment.

    4. Must clean up human waste and other body fluids as required.

    5. Must clean up workstation after any projects as required.

    6. Responsibilities occasionally require an adjusted work schedule.

    Occupational Safety and Health Act: Exposed to human body fluids, airborne agents, household chemicals. May be exposed to contagious diseases.

     

    The rate of pay for this position is $39,520 annually, based on $19.00/hour
