Albany Medical Center seeks a dynamic, distinguished executive to serve as its next Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The new CNO will be responsible for organizing and administering the operations for the delivery of patient care and nursing practice as defined by the administrative organization.
Position Summary
As the nursing officer of the Albany Medical Center:
Participates in establishing hospital-wide objectives for patient care and the organizational structure, policies, standards and budget to achieve those objectives.
Oversee all aspects of nursing care within the AMC system including:
+ Ensures adequate staffing to meet patient care requirements and maintains a master staffing plan for the areas supervised.
+ Recruits and retains qualified staff.
+ Establishes a program for professional standards development based on structure, process and outcome approach.
+ Maintains regulatory compliance for standards of nursing care and in concert with others for patient care in general.
+ Assures systems exist for competency validation for all professional nursing staff and that a standards-based performance monitoring and appraisal system is utilized.
+ Assists in establishing, documenting, implementing and evaluating the hospital-wide plan for provision of patient care, including nursing care.
+ Provides for appropriate orientation and education of staff to provide patient care and meet other responsibilities including assurance that staff is in compliance with education laws and regulations, that staff participates in required educational programming including mandatory safety education.
+ Analyzes and evaluates professional services rendered to improve quality of patient care and assure effective and efficient use of staff time and activities.
+ Assists in providing leadership for and supporting the quality system for the assessment and continuous improvement of patient care and other work activities.
+ Develops and puts into effect administrative policies established by the governing authority.
+ Works collaboratively with other executives and senior managers to implement the Albany Medical Center Strategic Plan.
Candidate Qualifications
Education/Certification
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
+ Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Public Health or relevant related field.
+ Currently registered in New York State or ability to obtain one.
Knowledge and Work Experience
+ Leadership, including exceptional people and communication skills and an ability to maintain energy and enthusiasm in dealing with the many challenges of the position.
+ Integrity and respect for the contributions of all patient care disciplines and an understanding of how to empower staff through shared governance and the performance improvement process.
+ Union Experience is strongly preferred
+ Visionary creativity and proactive problem resolution.
+ Visionary leadership presence with a track record of success in healthcare leadership.
