    SMX is hiring a mid-level Systems Engineer to support the deployment and sustainment of a secure cloud landing zone for a federal customer’s mission-critical environment. This is a great opportunity for early-career engineers to work in a secure AWS GovCloud IL5 setting, building and supporting infrastructure that enables secure software development and operations at scale. This position is a hybrid role supporting a Herndon, VA based team.

    Essential Duties:

    + Assist in deploying and configuring AWS GovCloud infrastructure and services in support of secure hosting environments.

    + Support infrastructure monitoring, automation, and reporting using modern tools and platforms.

    + Participate in remediation of security findings in accordance with STIGs and DoD compliance frameworks.

    + Help manage and troubleshoot virtualized and container-based workloads within the secure cloud.

    + Support documentation development for RMF ATO packages and operational procedures.

    + Work closely with engineering and security teams to implement secure, scalable system enhancements.

    Required Skills & Experience:

    + BA/BS in Engineering, IT, or related field.

    + 4+ years of relevant systems or cloud engineering experience.

    + Experience with AWS or other cloud service providers.

    + Familiarity with STIG compliance and federal cybersecurity frameworks.

    + Basic scripting or automation experience (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell).

    + Secret clearance.

    Desired Skills & Experience

    + Exposure to DevSecOps tools such as GitLab, SonarQube, or Jira.

    + Knowledge of RMF processes and ATO documentation requirements.

    + AWS or cybersecurity certifications are a plus.

    The SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications.     The proposed salary for this position is:

    $71,600—$119,400 USD
